Announced during Disney+ Day in the fall of 2021, it’s been several years since we’ve heard any substantial updates from the animated series “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” originally titled “Spider-Man: Freshman Year.” During D23, Disney’s biennial expo event, Marvel Animation revealed a first look at the trade show, revealing some details, including a 2025 date. Still, it failed to release an actual trailer, much to the fan’s chagrin. However, with “What…If?” season three coming to a close, Marvel has finally revealed the first official teaser for the series.

Created by Jeff Trammell (“Craig of the Creek”), who also serves as head writer, “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” is set in an alternate timeline outside of the current MCU Universe. Hewing closer to the comics, or at least veering away from the MCU, ‘YFNSM’ explores Peter Parker’s origin story and his early days as Spider-Man. In this iteration, Norman Osborn (eventually, The Green Goblin, voiced by Colman Domingo) becomes Parker’s mentor instead of Tony Stark.

Reprising the role from the Marvel Studios Animation series “What If…?”, Hudson Thames voices Peter Parker. The voice cast also includes Eugene Byrd, Grace Song, Paul F. Tompkins, Kari Wahlgren, Zeno Robinson, Charlie Cox as Matt Murdoch/Daredevil, and Hugh Dancy as Otto Octavius. Vincent D’onfrio is rumored to have resumed the voice role of the Kingpin, too.

Other characters said to be in the series include Dr. Stephen Strange, Chameleon, Mac Gargan / Scorpion, Rhino, Tarantula, Butane, Speed Demon, Carmela Black, and Unicorn.

Influenced by the early art of Steve Ditko, “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” animation is provided by Japanese 3DCG animation studio Polygon Pictures, known for “Transformers Prime Beast Hunters: Predacons Rising” (2013), “Star Wars: Resistance” and several other animated movies and series. Zach Robinson and Leo Birenberg will provide the score.
