Dec 5, 2023

This brand new Amazon Prime release has been getting some good reviews so it was time to check it out for ourselves this holiday season as we bring you our Candy Cane Lane review.

A man makes a deal with a mischievous elf who casts a magic spell that brings the 12 Days of Christmas to life.
After a deal with an elf to help him win a Christmas street light contest unexpected chaos ensues as Eddie Murphy is back in this festive fun romp of an Amazon Prime release.
Candy Cane Lane is certainly a film you’ve seen all before but what does make it stand out is that Eddie Murphy magic that makes all of his roles so iconic and special.
Similar to Eddie’s performance in the film this film does have a little festive trick up its sleeve as under the layers the movie does deliver quite the surprises along the way.
Oozing a National Lampoons vibe mixed with the Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito movie Deck the Halls the story is firmly focused on neighbourhood families fighting for the best Christmas decorations but on this occasion a grand prize of $100,000 is up for grabs.

After losing his job in true Christmas movie fashion he comes across Pepper the Elf’s Christmas Emporium where he gets the best decorations he can to win the contest whilst as the same time unknowingly signing a pact with the elf to win the contest, what results is his family being plagued by the 12 days of Christmas.
From swans in the swimming pool to a quest to find five gold rings the 12 days of Christmas haunt Murphy and his family throughout the duration of the film.
Multiple film references plague Candy Cane Lane but it still seems to stand out from the pack with something that is severely lacking in Christmas movies nowadays, heart.
Murphy isn’t his usual over the top self he’s more refined and it makes his comic moments all the more impactful and his wife (played by Tracy Ellis Ross) grounds the on-screen couple.

There’s a great family dynamic and despite it feeling familiar it feels so unique at the same time, it’s solid festive family fun on Amazon Prime this holiday season.
Time to kick back, grab a hot chocolate and indulge in the childlike innocence of this festive family romp as it’s really beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
