Iron Man 2: The Art of the Movie Book Review

Jan 20, 2024

After we got our hands on the first instalment of this 24-book Marvel Cinematic University Infinity Saga Titan Books were kind enough to send me the follow-up as we bring you our Iron Man 2: The Art of the Movie book review.
(C) 2023 MARVELBehind every great Iron Man stands a dedicated group of artists – and now, their secrets are revealed. In The Art of Iron Man 2, you’ll find everything from preliminary sketches to fully rendered 3-D images; storyboards to intricate set designs; and all the heroes, villains and technology you’ve ever imagined!
All of Iron Man’s new armors, all of Whiplash’s weapons, Tony Stark’s lab and more are profiled with art and commentary from creators (including comic book fan-favorite Adi Granov).
The 2nd of the 24 Marvel Cinematic Universe Infinity Saga film titles is being published as a complete set and this stunning 224-page hardback instantly stands out to me more for the following reason.
I preferred Iron Man 2 to Iron Man!
I may be in the minority here but the second film resonated with me more as we dived more into Tony as a human being and explored his luxurious lifestyle in more detail.
What this particular series of books does is dissect the finer details of the concept art for the costumes, tech and more that make up the Iron Man franchise.
Seeing photos of the Iron Man suit before it’s painted, a lightweight construction just ready to be turned into movie magic is a sight to behold.
Naturally, it’s a Marvel movie so most of the designs are done on a computer and are never materialised in real life but seeing the physical props in a movie movie feels like a rare insider look at something truly special.
So much work goes into these films and seeing the rendered 3-D images, storyboards, set and technology designs plastered on all 224 pages of this wonderful piece of Marvel merchandise you can’t help but appreciate the movie tenfold.
I always remember being invited to premieres or site and set tours for various productions or attraction openings and even if the attraction of a film that is released turns out to be an absolute dumpster fire you still have a connection to that production as you’ve experienced what few have not.

When flicking through the pages of Iron Man 2: The Art of the Movie I get that very same feeling, this exclusive look, a sneaky peek behind the curtain of a magic show where certain secrets are unveiled before your very eyes.
It’s things like that, that for me help to make me appreciate a production much more than just merely watching it on a screen.
Yes, I loved the movie but as soon as it’s viewed it’s straight onto the next one as is the case for the general public, not just me who reviews films on a day-to-day basis.
Having an appreciation for a film and a connection to a movie is what brings you back time and time again to see it, it’s products like this that solidify the love you have for a particular film and with 24 books in this particular set you’re certain to find your muse amongst them.
If you’re looking for how STARK tech was conceptualised and then realised in the movie or how Stark Expo was designed or what the various Mach suits are throughout the film then this is a coffee table must-have in your collection.
By the sounds of it, there are plenty more of these editions to come!
Thanks to Titan Books for sending us a copy ahead of its February 20th release!
