Milly Alcock Gets A Darker & More Modern Supergirl Costume In Stunningly Realistic DC Art
Feb 1, 2024
Summary
Milly Alcock’s Supergirl gets a darker and modern costume in realistic fan art. The timing of Alcock’s casting as Supergirl hints at her appearance in the 2025 Superman: Legacy film before leading her own Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie. Supergirl’s possible inclusion in Superman: Legacy could set up a major role for her in the DCU and establish her connection to Krypto before Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Milly Alcock’s Supergirl gets imagined with a fitting costume in realistic DC Universe fan art. Throughout January, casting for the DCU’s Kara Zor-El heated up, with Alcock ultimately getting cast as Supergirl. Alcock will now be the lead of DC’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie, with a reported role in Gunn’s Superman: Legacy beforehand — which would explain her early casting before the Supergirl film got a director attached.
On Instagram, popular artist @bosslogic shared an exciting look at what fans can expect from Alcock’s Supergirl.
The realistic fan art imagines a darker version of Supergirl. Alcock dons a modern take on the heroine’s costume that leaves out all the yellow/gold in favor of a red and blue mix. Although Kara’s costume in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics is her classic Supergirl look, the fan art version of the suit matches the tone Alcock’s character should have in the upcoming DC movie.

How Milly Alcock’s Supergirl Could Fit Into The DCU
The reports of Alcock’s casting claim she will first appear in 2025’s Superman: Legacy before leading the undated Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. It makes sense for Supergirl to debut in the Superman reboot film, and the DCU’s first movie, for a few reasons. In the comics that inspired the new Supergirl movie, Kara Zor-El starts the story having grown disillusioned due to all the pain and suffering she has endured.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’s ending could see Alcock’s character leave behind her edgier persona — as described by Gunn when announcing the film — to a balance with the more light-hearted, classic Supergirl, as happened in the comics.
Superman: Legacy can perfectly set up that story. The movie will include David Corenswet’s Superman and multiple other DCU heroes. Having Supergirl be part of the action with her cousin and the other heroes but still feel like she does not belong would be a great way of putting the character in the same headspace that Kara should be in for her movie. Besides, Krypto plays a key role in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics, and as Gunn teased that the dog will appear in Superman: Legacy, Supergirl’s connection to Krypto can be set up for her movie.
If Superman: Legacy’s inclusion of Supergirl is true, then the DCU could be setting her up for a major role. In the DCEU, Superman and Supergirl were barely utilized, with Sasha Calle’s multiverse Supergirl debuting and dying in The Flash. By making Supergirl and Superman major characters from the start, the DCU would cement their key role in its overall story. At 23, Alcock can easily play the character for the next ten years, allowing Supergirl to interact with several DCU heroes and perhaps be part of the Justice League and other teams.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is one of many DC movies being released by Warner Bros. under the supervision of DC co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow was officially confirmed in January 2023 alongside other DC titles, including Superman: Legacy, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and Swamp Thing.
