Thunderbolts will now release on May 2, 2025, while The Fantastic Four will debut on July 25, 2025.
Thunderbolts is set to start filming soon, while The Fantastic Four will reportedly start in the third quarter.

Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts movies have received new release dates in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s latest schedule shift. With the COVID pandemic and the 2023 Hollywood strikes, the MCU’s release date has seen several shifts. Upcoming MCU movies have been pushed forward and back, and that trend has now been repeated once again.

Disney has announced that Thunderbolts will now release earlier on May 2, 2025, with The Fantastic Four now debuting on July 25, 2025. The reveal means that the two MCU movies have switched places. Marvel Studios’ latest release schedule change comes off the heels of the announcement of The Fantastic Four’s cast. That reveal was made through the use of official art that teases The Fantastic Four’s story will take place in the past.

Why The Fantastic Four And Thunderbolts’ Release Date Swap Makes Sense
The MCU Will Have A Big 2025

While MCU fans have long anticipated the debut of Marvel’s First Family in The Fantastic Four, it makes sense that the movie has been pushed back, with Thunderbolts moving forward to take its spot. As revealed by multiple cast members, Marvel’s Thunderbolts is set to kick off filming in the next couple of months. That shooting schedule will contribute to the movie being ready to debut before The Fantastic Four.

Contrary to Thunderbolts, which has had its core cast revealed since 2022, The Fantastic Four has only just announced the stars who will play Reed Richards and company in the MCU. As such, the MCU movie’s production is at a slower pace than that of Thunderbolts. Recently, it was reported that The Fantastic Four’s filming start was delayed.

The MCU’s Fantastic Four reboot was initially meant to start filming this Spring. However, that has now reportedly been pushed back to the third quarter, with rumors claiming the film will begin shooting in August. Based on when Thunderbolts begins filming, the MCU movie should be near the end of its production or have just wrapped by the time cameras start rolling on The Fantastic Four. Based on the movies’ production timelines, it makes sense that Thunderbolts will now arrive before The Fantastic Four, with the films switching release dates.
