Gwen Stefani Says She’ll Have to Relearn No Doubt Songs for Coachella – The Hollywood Reporter
Feb 17, 2024
While Gwen Stefani is excited about reuniting with her No Doubt bandmates for Coachella, she admitted that she has some homework to do before they hit the stage in Indio, California, this April.
During a Wednesday night appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the singer opened up about the No Doubt reunion with Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal and Adrian Young after nearly a decade apart.
“I know it’s going to be amazing,” she said. “I’m so excited, and I think what is going to be hilarious is I know what’s going to happen. I’m going to get on stage and look around and just start cracking up because it’s just going to be like riding a bike. We’re going to be like, ‘What are we doing? We’re in the future right now, we’re at Coachella.’ It’s going to be bizarre.”
Though the music festival doesn’t kick off for a few months, Stefani admitted that the group hasn’t started rehearsing for their performance. But she’s already aware that she’s going to have to relearn some of the rock band’s older hits.
“I don’t remember them, no, not at all. I don’t! I think I’m going to have to learn probably like, eight or nine [songs],” she said, before accidentally teasing one of the tracks they’re going to perform. “One of the first songs I ever wrote was called ‘Different People,’ we’re doing that.”
As the audience proceeded to scream with excitement, Stefani quickly put her hand over her mouth in shock, saying, “I’m not supposed…” She later tried to correct herself, adding, “We might do that one.”
The song “Different People” was featured on the band’s third album, 1995’s Tragic Kingdom. No Doubt last reunited in 2012 for their album Push and Shove, and the last time they performed onstage together was in 2015.
The group join Lana Del Rey, Tyler, the Creator and Doja Cat in headlining this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
