MCU Fantastic Four Art Reveals Setting, Characters & Other Clues
Feb 26, 2024
Summary
The artwork for the
Fantastic Four
reboot hints that the movie will be set in the 1960s, adding a new twist to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Rumors suggest that the main villain in the
Fantastic Four
will be Galactus, and the team may be transported out of time in their efforts to stop him.
The casting of Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (The Thing) has received a lot of positive feedback from fans, who are excited to see what he will bring to the MCU.
The cast of the MCU Fantastic Four reboot has now finally been revealed, with artwork by Wesley Burt revealing that Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn will star as Marvel’s first family. Since the announcement, Marvel fans have cast their eagle-eyes over the artwork, picking out various clues, teases, and hints towards what we might see when the movie hits theaters in 2025.
The first major clue pertains to the setting of The Fantastic Four. Not only does the artwork that was released depict the superhero family in the bright, pastel colors of the 1960s, but the magazine being read by The Thing seemingly confirms that the MCU outing will take place in 1963.
Taking The Fantastic Four back to the 60s is sure to create something all-new for the MCU, and would at least in part explain why the likes of Iron Man and Captain America never mention them. However, this possible setting has left some lingering questions.
Rumors persist that the main villain of The Fantastic Four will be the planet-devouring entity known as Galactus, with theories suggesting that the titular team, in an effort to stop Galactus, will drag both him and themselves into a wormhole (or some such) that puts them “out of time.”
Of course, the events of one of the upcoming Avengers sequels is sure to bring them back into the present day fray.

As well as revealing Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn in all their superhero glory, the artwork reveals that H.E.R.B.I.E. (Highly Engineered Robot Built for Interdimensional Exploration), a small robot possessing advanced artificial intelligence designed and built by Dr. Reed Richards, will appear in the movie.

Some Marvel fans have even thrown in their suggestions over who should voice HERBIE when the little robot makes his big screen debut.
The artwork also reveals not only a comic-accurate design for The Thing, but also that The Bear star Ebon Moss-Bachrach will start life as Ben Grimm, the astronaut. The casting of Moss-Bachrach is by far one of the most popular among the four, with fans excited to see what the Emmy Award winner will bring to the MCU.

The Fantastic Four Is Due to Land in Theaters in July 2025
The Fantastic Four is all set to be helmed by WandaVision’s Matt Shakman, with a script from Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer, Josh Friedman and Cameron Squires. Plot details for The Fantastic Four reboot are currently unknown, but Shakman has previously teased that it will be unlike anything seen before in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“It’s different in so many ways. I wish I could be specific. I wish I could say more. But we are doing things very differently from a story standpoint, from an approach to the filmmaking standpoint, that really fits the material. I wish I could say more. I would love to, but I can’t. But I think it’s going to be unlike anything you’ve seen before, and certainly unlike anything at Marvel that you’ve seen before.”
The Fantastic Four
is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 25, 2025, as part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
