Summary
First official image released for Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios.
Standalone DC projects like Batman Azteca continue to provide unique takes on popular characters.
The film follows Yohualli Coatl becoming an Aztec Batman seeking revenge, with versions of the Joker and Two-Face also appearing.
The first official image for Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios has been revealed. James Gunn and Peter Safran are charting the next ten years of releases in their DC Universe; however, that does not mean that all DC projects will be canon to the DCU. There are some announced Elseworlds DC movies and series in the works, and one of the most interesting has just had its first official image released.
On Twitter, Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios Concept Environment Artist @Kuzeh shared a look at the first official image for the upcoming animated movie.
The image from DC’s Batman movie sees its version of the Dark Knight with glowing yellow eyes. While Gunn’s DCU will see its actors play their characters in animation, video games, and live-action, it is for the best that standalone DC projects like Batman Azteca continue to be made, bringing unique takes on popular characters.

Everything We Know About Aztec Batman: Clash Of Empires
The Animated Movie Will Feature Key Batman Characters
Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios (Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires) will follow the story of Yohualli Coatl. The character will become the movie’s version of Batman after the young boy’s father is murdered by Spanish Conquistadors. Yohualli escapes from Toltecatzin, arriving at Tenochtitlan and training inside the bat god Tzinacan’s temple — the movie’s version of the Batcave — to prepare for revenge on the Conquistadors.
In the movie, the conservative priest Yoka will go crazy after he asks his god for guidance and is told to perform human sacrifices, becoming the Joker.
Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios’ Dark Knight will be voiced by Horacio Garcia Rojas (Narcos: Mexico). Besides its version of Batman, the DC animated film will also bring to life unique takes on two of the hero’s most famous villains. The Joker will be voiced by Omar Chaparro (Pokémon:Detective Pikachu). In the movie, the conservative priest Yoka goes crazy after he asks his god for guidance and is told to perform human sacrifices, becoming the Joker.
The other one of Batman’s villains confirmed for the movie is Two-Face. Star of Netflix’s international hit series Money Heist, Álvaro Morte will play Batman Azteca’s Two-Face. In the movie, the character will be Hernán Cortés, the leader of the Spanish Conquistadors, who killed Yohualli’s father. After getting injured in battle, Cortés will be scarred like Harvey Dent, becoming Two-Face. The animated movie is directed by Juan Meza-León (Harley Quinn) and will release on Max, though a release date for Batman Azteca: Choque de Imperios has yet to be announced.
