Taylor-Johnson is a strong choice to play 007 due to his action movie history and his age.
New reports claim that the next James Bond actor has now been chosen. Based on the character created by Ian Fleming, Bond has now been played by a handful of actors over the past 60 years. Daniel Craig was the latest star to take on the part, but he bid farewell to 007 with the explosive ending to No Time To Die in 2021, and there’s been no official word since regarding who will take his place as the iconic British spy.
Now, The Sun reports that actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been chosen as the actor to lead the announced Bond 26. According to the report, Taylor-Johnson has officially been given an offer, but he has yet to accept it. The Sun’s source claims that Taylor-Johnson is expected to accept and that an announcement will be made in the coming days. Why Aaron Taylor-Johnson Is A Strong Choice For James Bond
The 007 Franchise Would Be In Good Hands
Taylor-Johnson largely became a known quantity due to his starring role in 2010’s Kick-Ass, and he has since gone on to appear in movies like Godzilla, Nocturnal Animals, Tenet, and Bullet Train. He’s also set to appear in the likes of The Fall Guy and Sony’s Kraven the Hunter. While many details remain unknown about the next iteration of Bond, Taylor-Johnson’s history in the action genre makes his reported casting a promising sign.
Taylor-Johnson is currently 33 years old, which is slightly younger than when most actors take on the role. Craig, for example, was 38 years old when he appeared in 2006’s Casino Royale, and Pierce Brosnan was 42 when he joined the franchise with GoldenEye in 1995. Joining the franchise in his early thirties gives Taylor-Johnson a long runway as a more youthful version of the character, especially since those who take on the part are expected to appear in multiple films.
Roger Moore was the oldest actor to take on the role of Bond, first playing the character when he was 45 years old.
Most Bond actors have struck a balance between rugged physicality and a sense of classy charm. Each past actor has occupied a different place on this spectrum, with Craig, for example, veering more toward the rugged physicality end. Taylor-Johnson seems like he will be able to capture both aspects of the character, with his role in Bullet Train suggesting that he can do the quippy one-liners as easily as he can convincingly engage in fight scenes. If Taylor-Johnson has indeed been cast as Bond, the franchise appears to be in capable hands.
