Kristen Stewart Says Being in an MCU Film ‘Sounds Like a F—ing Nightmare’
Apr 2, 2024
Summary
Kristen Stewart compares starring in a Marvel movie to “a f—ing nightmare.”
However, Stewart would sign on to do an MCU film if Greta Gerwig was the director.
Stewart’s current big-screen flick, the romantic thriller
Love Lies Bleeding,
is scoring with the critics to the tune of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Kristen Stewart has come a long way since portraying Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga. Stewart’s latest big-screen role comes in co-writer and director Rose Glass’ Love Lies Bleeding. And while promoting the romantic thriller, Stewart revealed that starring in an MCU film “sounds like a f—ing nightmare.” However, she would definitely do a Marvel movie if Barbie’s own Greta Gerwig was the director. When asked if she’d make a “Marvel-type” movie, Stewart responded on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast with host Amanda Hirsch by saying:
I will likely never do a Marvel movie. Oh, it sounds like a f—ing nightmare, actually.

Stewart also said:
“Well, I like big movies because I like people to watch them when I’m in them. The system would have to change […] What ends up happening is this algorithmic, weird experience where you can’t feel personal at all about it. And so, likely not, but maybe the world changes […] If Greta Gerwig asked me to do a Marvel movie, then I would do it.”
Back in July 2023, just weeks before the bright-pink blockbuster dropped in movie theaters, Gerwig went on record and said she herself is willing to do a superhero movie in the future. When asked if she’d consider helming an action film or superhero flick, Gerwig told Rolling Stone:
Yes, of course. It would have to be something I had a feeling for and a relationship to. A well-shot, well-executed action movie is just incredible. It’s a dance.
Kristen Stewart’s Love Lies Bleeding
Since Kristen Stewart last portrayed Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, the actress has gone on to star in a number of well-received movies, including Still Alice and Certain Women. But the main characters in Love Lies Bleeding are altogether different protagonists from the human-turned-vampire she herself portrayed in five films. Stewart said in an interview with Deadline:
“The protagonist is kind of an affable dude. But when it comes down to it, there’s a kind of familial violence, that’s really in us all, because we’re no different from each other. I believe in individuality, but we’re all humans, and we all have the ability and the capabilities of really disgusting things.”

Stewart’s Twilight co-star and ex-boyfriend Robert Pattinson certainly found success in the superhero genre, albeit a DC not Marvel movie, in one of the best Batman movies in director Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Regardless of whether she’ll ever suit up in the MCU, Stewart’s career continues to flourish. And, at the time of this writing, Love Lies Bleeding registers a 93% on the Tomatometer and boasts a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 81%.
