If you’re a DC fan and have been relying on Netflix for your DC viewing needs, it’s time to find another means of watching them. The entire DC movie lineup, including the extended universe films, are leaving the streamer. Per What’s On Netflix, many of the DC movie releases have already begun leaving the platform, and now a vast majority of them will all be gone this month. According to the site, another exodus of their movies is scheduled over the next few months. This applies exclusively to Netflix in the United States, as the libraries in other regions vary.
The DC films that were just removed from Netflix include DC League of Super-Pets, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, Black Adam, Justice League, Man of Steel, Shazam!, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Suicide Squad, The Batman, The Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984. As of now, you can still enjoy DC Teen Titans Go! To The Movies (until April 8th) and Joker (until May 1st).
Warner Bros. Began Licensing Movies to Third-Party Competition in 2023
Warner Bros. Pictures’ DC films began hitting Netflix throughout December 2023 and through the New Year as Warner Bros. Discovery began licensing out their releases to third-party competition such as Netflix. Many HBO titles began heading to the streamer for the first time in 2023, and more are scheduled for the rest of the year, but these licensing agreements have a short time frame.
In the case of the DC titles on Netflix, the licensing window is 3–5 months maximum before they will be removed. It’s likely that the films will float around other services with these third-party agreements, but you can always find them streaming on Max if that’s a part of your subscription line-up.
Related Over 30 DC Projects Purged From Max Including Harshly Criticized Ryan Reynolds and Fan-Favorite Keanu Reeves Movies DC fans have seen more than 30 projects vanish from MAX at the beginning of the month as part of WBD’s content rotation strategy.
HBO was once very protective of its properties, which led to the streaming service HBO Max (now Max). However, in these ever-changing streaming times and due to dropping HBO from the streaming name, it made it easier to get into these lucrative third-party deals to license their shows. This began with Issa Rae’s Insecure and was followed by Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Six Feet Under, Ballers, and finally, Sex and the City.
If you happen to live outside the United States, you can still find some DC releases on Netflix in international territories and some of their series still live on U.S. Netflix as well. A vast majority of the Arrowverse shows still stream on Netflix, and they still exclusively house The Sandman, which is returning for Season 2, and the upcoming Dead Boy Detective series.
