The long-delayed Blade reboot from Marvel Studios finally has a positive update courtesy of Production Weekly, which reveals that the MCU outing has now been given a filming scheduled of Fall 2024. This would make sense considering the movie’s current release date of November 7, 2025. However, ongoing rumors have claimed it could be delayed to 2026, but, in the interest of positivity, we shall leave that aside for now.

Filming on the Blade reboot has been delayed multiple times over the last few years and was most recently shut down just six weeks before production. The project has now gone through several writers and directors due to that mysterious specter known as “creative differences.” The project has since had a major overhaul, with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige reportedly stopping production on the movie due to his displeasure with what he had seen and hiring Oscar-nominated writer Michael Green.

Lovecraft Country director Yann Demange is now all set to helm the Blade reboot from a script by Logan and Blade Runner 2049 writer Michael Green, with Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali in the title role and Mia Goth and Delroy Lindo in supporting roles. Reports from behind the scenes have claimed that Ali was close to walking away from the MCU movie before changes were made, with the actor now reportedly “really encouraged” by what’s in store.

Not much has yet been revealed about the plot of the Blade reboot, but it is expected to feature the mysterious Ebony Blade, which was introduced in 2021’s Eternals. Rumors have claimed that, initially, the movie would have pushed Blade into the background while introducing the vampire hunter’s daughter, Fallon Grey, who possesses the same powers and assists her old man in killing monsters. However, due to the changes that have now been made, this is unlikely to be the case (if it ever was).

Blade Will Come as Part of Phase Six of the MCU

One thing we do know about Blade is that, alongside Deadpool & Wolverine, it will be rated R. Director Yann Demange has previously confirmed that the movie will not shy away from the violence inherent in vampire hunting while heaping praise on lead actor Mahershala Ali.

“For Blade, we are going to have fun because Mahershala is such a deep actor. I’m excited to show a kind of ruthlessness, a roughness he has, that allows him to walk the earth in a particular way. I love him for that. He’s got a dignity and integrity, but there is a ferocity there that he usually keeps under the surface. I want to unleash that and put it on the screen.”

Blade
is scheduled to be released on November 7, 2025, as part of Phase Six of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The rest of the phase includes the reboot of the
Fantastic Four
and the two
Avengers
sequels
Avengers 5
and
Avengers: Secret Wars
, which are due for release in 2026 and 2027 respectively.
