Summary
Pom Klementieff continues talking to DC Studios’ co-CEO and co-chair, James Gunn, about “one specific character.” The actress revealed back in 2023 that she was engaged in talks to join the DC Universe.
Klementieff still did NOT reveal which DC Comics character she might portray: “I can’t talk about that right now.”
Klementieff joined the MCU as Mantis in
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,
and the actress also admits to having a fondness for Marvel’s X-Men.
Is Mantis moving on from the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Well, actress Pom Klementieff, who portrays the Guardians of the Galaxy’s team member, is still discussing the possibility of joining the DCU. While appearing at the Superhero Comic Con and ACE Comic Con collaboration held in San Antonio, Texas, Klementieff revealed that she’s been talking to GOTG collaborator and DC Studios’ co-CEO and co-chair, James Gunn, about “one specific character.” When asked if there was a certain role she wanted to portray, Klementieff answered (per Agents of Fandom):
“Do you really think I’m going to answer this question?
I just want to keep working with James, so we’re going to keep trying to find ways to do that.
Yes, we’ve been talking about one specific character, but I can’t talk about that right now.”
Klementieff first appeared as the MCU’s Mantis during the events of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as her character served Peter Quill/Star Lord’s (Chris Pratt) Celestial father, Ego (Kurt Russell). While in San Antonio, the actress also spoke about working with Gunn and her love of the X-Men, courtesy of a separate post by the Agents of Freedom. Klementieff said:
“For me, it was amazing to work with James Gunn,
it was always my dream to be an
X-Men or part of a Marvel movie.
Then,
I saw the first
Guardians of the Galaxy,
and it became my first Marvel movie ever.
Then, I got cast in the second one. I feel SO lucky.”
Will Pom Klementieff Return to MCU as Mantis?
While MCU fans last saw Pom Klementieff’s Mantis in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, the actress also spent last summer facing off against Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning. Klementieff’s Jackie Chan-inspired character, Paris, was a welcome addition to the IMF movie.
But now that she continues discussing the possibility of joining the DCU, what are the chances that Klementieff will return as Mantis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The actress addressed the possibility while putting in an appearance at the aforementioned convention in San Antonio (per Agents of Fandom):
I’m always open to it, I love the character. I’m sure the fans would love to see it, but I don’t know. It depends on the project.

“I’m not going to tell you which character.
No,
we’ve been talking about it, and there’s one specific character that he’s thinking of,
and I think it would be really, really awesome.
And it would have [me] continue doing action too, so it’s exciting.”
