Jerry Seinfeld, Jessica Seinfeld to Receive Greenwich Film Festival Honors

Jul 25, 2024

Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld have a date with the Greenwich International Film Festival.

The couple will receive Changemaker Award honors at the Connecticut festival’s gala event, scheduled to take place at L’Escale on Nov. 13. The fundraiser serves as a benefit for the Children’s Museum of Manhattan Family Connections program, which reunites parents incarcerated on Rikers Island and their children for an afternoon of play and learning at the museum.

The Changemaker Award honors “artists who have used their public platform and the power of film to further positive social change,” per the festival. Those who have taken the stage to be feted in years past include Lin-Manuel Miranda, Eva Longoria, John Legend, Ashley Judd, Renée Zellweger, Christy Turlington Burns, Freida Pinto, Trudie Styler, Abigail Breslin, Harry Belafonte and Mia Farrow.

GIFF founder and chairwoman Wendy Stapleton said the organization is thrilled to present the couple with the Changemaker prize. “Jerry and Jessica are the perfect fit for Changemakers in this momentous year. Jessica has used her platform for decades to advocate for the disenfranchised, underrepresented and now the Jewish community in their battle against the rising tide of antisemitism around the world,” she added. “Jerry, having created the iconic comedy show of our lifetime, is the perfect balance we have always been looking for in a Changemaker. He is a celebrity who is able to tackle difficult topics, while making us laugh. What an incredible gift laughter is to carry us through challenging times.”

As part of the fest’s 10th anniversary, the female-founded GIFF will showcase a program that features an expanded Jewish film series combating antisemitism through cinema, with programming highlighting women’s stories and a lineup of social impact films.

News of the award comes for Jerry on the heels of the release of his Netflix comedy Unfrosted, and amid a current U.S. stand-up tour. For Jessica, a best-selling author and founder of the Good+ Foundation, she had a banner year as the executive producer of the feature documentary Daughters which picked up prizes at Sundance, Bentonville, Miami, Full Frame and Cinetopia film festivals.
