Jurassic World Exhibition Manchester Review: JAW-DROPPING!

Aug 1, 2024

Universal and Neon kindly invited me down before the highly anticipated Jurassic World Exhibition opened to the public and it did not disappoint, this is a MUST-VISIT attraction!

Many films and attractions pick up awards, say they’re award-winning and then when you see or experience them you’re left leaving a little disappointed in many cases as they never quite live up to the hype, up steps the Jurassic World exhibition.
From August until January, the Trafford Centre in Manchester will be home to this incredible display of animatronic dinosaurs, immersive sets, shows and phenomenal levels of detail for a pop-up experience.
After selling out the ExCel Arena London in 2022 this touring show has come up north for the first time in Manchester showcasing some fan-favourite dinosaurs from the movies.

Mancunians can look forward to seeing the armored adult Ankylosaurus, and the ferocious Carnotaurus not to mention Velociraptors and a life-sized Brachiosaurus who greets you upon your entry.
During the media event, we were greeted with drinks and cupcakes on arrival before taking a step onto our ‘boat’ to take us to Isle Nublar to see all of these creatures that inhabit Jurassic World.
There’s a reason why this touring exhibition has been such a resounding success. It’s like stepping inside a theme park and escaping the world for 45-60 mins (average visiting time), just a seemingly innocent pop-up building has been transformed into this beautiful box of escapism and the dinosaurs are so well created and impressive I haven’t quite seen anything as good as these animatronics outside of a theme park.

Their movement, their eyes and the fluidity of it all genuinely made you feel as though they were real. Wandering around this dinosaur zoo was truly incredible and my jaw was firmly on the floor from start to finish.
Meet and Greets with dinosaurs as all members of staff are firmly in character telling you factual information about all the dinosaurs you’re seeing. There are photo-ops aplenty and some great hands-on interactive tasks to get stuck in with inside the Hammond Creation Lab.
These sets look plucked straight from the films themselves and wouldn’t look out of place inside a movie soundstage.

What I enjoyed the most about this particular attraction is just how varied your experience is. You start out on a little simulated boat adventure which then turns into a walkaround zoo which then changes once again the second you hit the Hammond Creation Lab and there are two showscenes which were both superbly done!
The first show scene is where viewers meet Blue and get to watch some raptor training right before their very eyes. I felt the training show was the perfect length of time and the guard fencing around the show didn’t distract from the show but more heightened the fear factor for the young ones who had an air of excitement about them ahead of the show as well as nerves.
Blue was certainly the starter before the main course though however as the final show of the experience involved a T-Rex and I can’t spoil what happens inside but it is genuinely stunning, plucked straight out of the movies and you’re front and centre inside a scene stunning!

As you catch your breath after your encounter with a T-Rex your final stop is the merchandise shop full of not only a whole array of official merchandise but exhibition-specific merchandise too! You wouldn’t think this was a pop-up experience, it looks permanent and the shop looks permanent too!
From T-shirts to mugs, patches, pop figures and plushies there’s plenty to choose from with both Jurassic World and Jurassic Park branding. Much like the Jeep within the walkthrough experience, it was good to see some Jurassic Park branded merchandise dotted around the place!

I absolutely cannot recommend Jurassic World The Exhibition enough, I haven’t seen anything quite like it, it’s truly remarkable and one of the best pop-up experiences you’re ever likely to witness!
