Tom Hardy “Fired” From ‘MobLand,’ Won’t Return for Season 3
May 24, 2026
Acclaimed actor and Academy Award-nominee Tom Hardy has reportedly been “fired” from Paramount’s hit gangster series MobLand, and will not return for Season 3. The series, which finds Hardy sharing the screen (something which was apparently becoming an issue) with renowned actors Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren, has been a major hit for Paramount+ and executive producer Guy Ritchie, with a second season due to debut later this year. But now, it sounds like Season 2 will be the end of the line for Hardy. According to Puck News, a “hit” was put out on Hardy (metaphorically speaking, of course) with the actor “booted off” MobLand ahead of Season 2’s release. Paramount has decided “not to pick up” the popular actor for a third season after Hardy allegedly clashed with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser, among others, during the development of the upcoming second season.

Hardy was reportedly late to set “a bunch,” as well as “constantly” giving notes on the scripts and direction of the series as he “attempted to change dialogue.” Not only that, the actor was also becoming increasingly irritated over sharing the spotlight more and more with the stacked ensemble cast, which also includes Paddy Considine and Joanne Froggatt alongside Mirren and Brosnan. He “expressed his displeasure that a series initially built around him was increasingly becoming an ensemble showcase,” with Butterworth even threatening to quit the show, according to sources. Instead, Paramount ultimately decided to part ways with Hardy in a major blow to the show. Finally, the report includes the detail that Hardy’s contract “does contain a mutual option for the third season”, meaning he could have decided to walk away himself. Instead, it seems the decision was made for him. MovieWeb has contacted representatives for Paramount and Tom Hardy for comment.

Created by Ronan Bennett, MobLand Season 1 was released in March last year and quickly became a massive hit for Paramount+ after amassing more than 26 million viewers and securing the #1 spot on the streaming platform across various territories. Largely centering on Tom Hardy as Harry Da Souza, a respected fixer and enforcer for the powerful Harrigan crime family, Hardy’s starring role has been a large part of the show’s appeal ever since its conception. While we await further updates regarding exactly what has happened behind the scenes, we can only wonder how the series moves forward without him, and how badly this could affect the show’s popularity ahead of Season 2.
