Ryan Reynolds & Hugh Jackman’s Sailing Team Set for Disney+ Streaming Series
May 31, 2026
Over the last two decades, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman have become one of the most popular and well-known one-two punches in the entertainment industry. Most notably, the two finally got the chance to team up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2024’s Deadpool and Wolverine, which became the biggest R-rated movie in history at the box office. Grossing over $1.3 billion globally, the Deadpool threequel allowed Reynolds and Jackman to explore the violence and intensity their characters are known for in the comics, and it translated into their movie becoming one of the biggest hits of the year. Off-screen, Reynolds and Jackman’s friendship has only grown stronger after first meeting on the set of 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The two are frequently seen in public together for professional and personal outings, and conversations are already teasing their potential comeback in one or both of the next two Avengers movies or a fourth Deadpool film. Before that happens, reports have teased a new avenue for the two A-listers. Revealed by The Hollywood Reporter, Disney+ greenlit a new docuseries from Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac centered around a professional SailGP sailing team owned by Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, which will stream on Disney+ and Hulu. Together, they run the Bonds Flying Roos, who will be featured “across a global racing season defined by speed, pressure and high stakes,” according to the media announcement. This team will work up to competing in “a stadium-style championship where identical 50-foot catamarans race in close-to-shore courses at speeds of up to 100 km/h.” Competing in the Rolex SailGP Championship (the professional sail-racing league), Reynolds and Jackman’s Australia-based team is led by driver and CEO Tom Slingsby, who won a gold medal in the men’s Laser class at the 2012 London Olympics. Jackman and Reynolds also offered a statement to The Hollywood Reporter about the series, sharing that they “once again anticipate action, comedy, heart but with a lot more water” in their first post-MCU reunion:
“This is our first collaboration since ‘Deadpool and Wolverine,’ and we once again anticipate action, comedy, heart but with a lot more water. And (fingers crossed) pirates. We hope there’s pirates in SailGP.”
Marvel Studios
The series is expected to be similar in nature to FX’s Welcome to Wrexham, which also stars Reynolds and Mac in their efforts with the Wrexham AFC football team, which they own together. This show has been a major hit for FX since its debut in 2022, and it is already renewed to run for three more seasons, which will keep it on the air until at least 2029. Jackman and Reynolds hope to see the same level of success with their new sailing-centric series, which will give sports and entertainment fans another real story to follow and put a less mainstream event into the spotlight.
Jackman and Reynolds’ new sailing series does not have a title or release date, as of writing.
