Brad Winderbaum hinted at a possible return for
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
, reviving hopes for fans of the unique series.
Several stars of the show have expressed interest in returning to the MCU, eager to reprise their beloved characters.
While a comeback may not happen soon, the series is still being discussed, offering a positive step forward for fans.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is one of several Marvel TV shows that was closed down as Marvel Studios began to reclaim several of their properties, and end others that didn’t fit within the continuity and plans for the MCU. Although it is now four years since the series came to an end in 2020, a surprise comment from executive Brad Winderbaum has revived hope of the series making a comeback in the future.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen, and starred Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, and Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson/Quake. The show ran from 2013 until its cancellation, and since then, its position within the ever-changing Marvel timeline of events has been questioned time and time again. The series was quite unique, in that it featured some storylines that were wound around the MCU narrative, while others completely ignored events that were happening on the big screen in the franchise.

While speaking to Agents of Fandom on YouTube, Winderbaum gave a nod to the series when discussing other upcoming shows. He said:

“We’re in production on Daredevil: Born Again in New York. They’re shooting as we speak. I’m seeing text messages come up from the set. [Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.] is probably the next show that [we’re] going to kind of revisit and revive… a really strong… and one of my favorite pockets of our universe and our fandom. And… you never know is the answer!”

One thing that has been made clear is that while the position of the series within the MCU’s continuity has often been questioned, many of those involved in the show have never given up hope of revisiting their characters within the franchise.

Following the cancellation of the series, Dove Cameron, who is best known for starring in Disney’s Descendants movies and being one third of the cancelled Power Puff Girls live-action film, said that she would be willing to jump back into the Marvel story at any time, even as another character.

Last year, talk of characters from the series possibly making their way into the main MCU franchise started up again. Chloe Bennet, Mina-Na Wen and Gabriel Luna openly discussed their desire to return as Quake, Ghost Rider and Melinda May, respectively. Now it seems that their chance to re-enter the franchise could be on the cards after all, and for fans who were sorry to see the show come to an end, that is something that cannot happen fast enough.

Of course, Winderbaum’s comments suggested that any kind of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. reprisal is not something that is going to happen for a few years, as there are many other projects lining up after Marvel Studios’ recent slow-down in production. However, just knowing that the series is still being discussed will be a positive step forward for many fans.
