Amazon’s Near-Perfect Action Thriller Series Scores 4.6 Billion Views To Become No. 1 in the World

The biggest action thriller series has officially been crowned, with the near-perfect and, at present, four-part show fighting off some seriously tough competition to take the spot after accruing a mammoth 4.6 billion views. The world of streaming action shows has slowly become a gloriously crowded space, with the likes of Taylor Sheridan’s spy series Lioness, his Yellowstone spin-off Marshals, Chris Pratt’s The Terminal List, and Netflix’s The Night Agent all delivering intensely explosive thrills. But none of them have the reach of a certain nomadic avenger.

Prime Video’s Action Thriller Show Has Become the Benchmark

Based on the series of smash-hit novels by author Lee Child and developed for Prime Video by Nick Santora, Reacher Season 1 introduced audiences to Alan Ritchson as the former U.S. Army military police officer turned drifting action hero back in 2022. The influence of both the actor and the character has been thick and fast, with Reacher now casting a shadow over action shows and quickly becoming the one that all subsequent shows are compared to.

And it’s easy to see why. Since his humble beginning in Season 1, Jack Reacher has been accosted in a small town and accused of murder, avenged the mysteriously brutal murder of his old army teammates, gone undercover for the DEA, and found himself caught up in all manner of deep-set conspiracies. Each season has been met with critical acclaim (with the show overall boasting Rotten Tomatoes scores as high as 98%), spotlighting Alan Ritchson as the next big action icon and delivering the perfect no-nonsense series in the subgenre of “Dad TV.”

Evidently, a lot of dads are enamored, with the latest Nielsen numbers from September revealing that Reacher is the #1 series on streaming after garnering 4.6 billion minutes viewed. Coming up behind Mr. Reacher is Apple TV’s Ted Lasso with 3.6 billion, the recent Reacher spin-off Neagley with 3.3 billion, Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness also at 3.3 billion, and Netflix’s true-crime series Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story with 3.1 billion.

Based on the sheer level of success, it will come as little (but no less exciting) surprise to learn that Reacher has already been renewed for both a fifth and sixth season. Meaning the action thriller rivals will be competing with the unstoppable Reacher for years to come. It has since been confirmed that Reacher Season 5 will be based on the twentieth book in the Jack Reacher series, Make Me, which was released in 2015 and finds our hero stopping at a small Midwestern town named Mother’s Rest.

“But before long he’s plunged into a desperate race through LA, Chicago, Phoenix, and San Francisco, and through the hidden parts of the internet, up against thugs and assassins every step of the way,” the official synopsis reveals.

Adding Jay Baruchel (How to Train Your Dragon), Kevin Durand (The Naked Gun), Amanda Ip (Transplant), and Ciara Bravo (Cherry) to the roster, author Lee Child has described Season 5 as a “brutal” and “disgusting” story.
