Born Again’ Showrunner Addresses Foggy Nelson Death Changes
Mar 9, 2025
Warning: This article contains major spoilers for Daredevil: Born Again.
Marvel Studios promised that Daredevil: Born Again
would deliver a Disney+ show that stood as one of the most brutal and violent MCU projects to date. The first two episodes of the Daredevil revival have shown that they were not lying, but the promise also came with a harsh lesson in being careful of what you wish for, as one long-standing character met an untimely death in Episode 1.
Daredevil: Born Again did not have a straightforward production, and although it is not unusual for Marvel shows and movies to go through several changes from page to screen, the return of the Man Without Fear did much more than that and had a complete creative overhaul. The result was to turn the series from a completely new iteration of the character, to one that acknowledged the events of the Netflix series and became a direct continuation of that show.

Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) struggles after significant changes and Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) returns as New York City’s new mayor.
While that meant the return of several fan-favorite characters, the opening episode also saw one of those characters meeting an early demise. Foggy Nelson, played once again by Elden Henson
, met a tragic end very quickly in Daredevil: Born Again, killed by Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) and leaving a lasting impact on Matt Murdock. However, originally, Foggy’s death was going to happen off-screen before the events of the series, and that was one thing that showrunner Dario Scardapane said had to change. He told ScreenRant:
“It was an inevitability! Truth be told…In the original version, before I came in, he had died, but it was off-screen, and for me, it couldn’t be off-screen. You had to feel it and that’s why that statement happened literally. It’s like [if] you’re going to kill off Foggy, it has to be the three of them [who] come back. That loss has to be felt, and that loss has to be an earthquake. That shatters Matt, [it] makes him put away the mask, [it] has a ripple effect. And again, Karen’s not gone. So what is the breakup of a family after a death in the family, and what happens when they come back together?”
Has Foggy Really Gone from Daredevil: Born Again?
Disney+
While it seems that the death of Foggy is a bold and far-reaching movie for the returning series, all may not be quite as final as it seems. Executive producer Sana Amanat addressed the impact of the character’s demise in the opening episode, but suggested that his role is not over just yet.
“You need to feel that emotion. He’s too important of a character, and you will continue to feel his presence. It’s not the last of him, is all we’re going to say.”
It was teased today that both Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) and Henson will be returning for Season 2 of the show, which is a huge surprise considering the events that have transpired in Daredevil: Born Again’s opening episode. However, there are still seven episodes of Season 1 to go, and Foggy’s “presence” in the future of the show could be addressed before the end of this first run of episodes to make it clearer where his future lies.
