Daredevil Production Shuts Down Filming Early Due To Writer’s Strike Pickets
Aug 9, 2023
Marvel Studios may have already started slowing down their production schedule after a hectic few years threatened to derail the franchise, but it seems that the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series could end up with a lengthier delay due to the increasing disruption of the writers strike. In post shared on Twitter, it was revealed that filming on Charlie Cox’s Daredevil series had to wrap filming early today after picket lines set up in the vicinity made it impossible to continue.
The WGA strike has caused issues for many productions over the last few days, with all script work being halted immediately, interviews and promotion of imminent releases being canceled and a number of in-production projects having to shut down due to showrunners and writers not being present on set. There have also been those who have refused to cross any picket lines that are erected outside studios or sets, and that has caused wide-spread issues for multiple studios.
In this latest disruption, Writers Guild Association East shared news that their picket line, which was set up early in the day, had resulted in the MCU series wrapping filming for the day at 1PM, with shooting now expected to continue tomorrow. The post read:
“WGA members on strike set up a sunrise picket at Silvercup East, where they’re supposed to be filming Daredevil, but members of the Teamster Local 817 and IATSE Locals 829 and 52 are refusing to cross the picket line.”
According to various reports, the early shut down resulted in no filming being completed at all, something that could continue to be seen in the coming days. If this is the case, then no amount of superhero powers will be enough to prevent the series ending up well behind schedule. For now though, Marvel Studios have been vague enough with their Disney+ series release dates to be able to slide the show’s debut without it being too much of an issue, providing the strike is resolved in a reasonable time, naturally.

As was expected, the writers strike has not taken long to have a huge impact on many high-profile shows and movies. Among the series that have been impacted are Severance, Billions, Evil, Stranger Things and Cobra Kai. However, there are many other projects that were yet to get underway have had to shut down their development stages, such as Game of Thrones spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.
The impact of the strike was felt immediately across many U.S. networks, when all late night shows were pulled off air within hours of the strike being called. Since then things have become much more muddled for those involved in the strike, with reports suggesting that many big studios have demanded showrunners to turn up on set regardless of what fines they could receive from the WGA for doing so. With no end in sight for the strikes to end, Daredevil: Born Again is certainly not going to be the last to be impacted.
