Doom Patrol’s Mark Sheppard Says Season 4 was Planned as the Last One
Apr 6, 2023
Doom Patrol, along with Titans, have become the latest victims of Warner Discovery’s current crisis. Both shows have been canceled, joining the long list of productions forgotten by the company, as happened with Westworld or the scandalous cancelation of Batgirl, a film that was finishing its post-production and was almost ready to be released.
Initially planned for the DC Universe, the series continued on HBO Max when the comic book company’s exclusive streaming failed but seemed popular and stable enough to keep going. However, in the middle of the new building strategy for the DCU, both in cinema and on television, its survival hung by a thread that was finally cut off. However, James Gunn and Peter Safran, recently given the co-CEO position with DC Studios, claim the decision was made before their appointment to the job.
However, the teams behind the series were prepared, and it looks like we could see some decent endings. At least, in the case of Doom Patrol, as it was confirmed by actor Mark Sheppard, who plays Willoughby Kipling, to Entertainment Weekly:
“Genuinely, I do know that Jeremy was prepared for this. So the end of Doom Patrol, season 4B, is really good. It’s really good as an ending. We got four years of Doom Patrol out under the wire, and we made something beautiful. That was a joy. I mean, it was an absolute joy.”

The Story of Doom Patrol
Warner Bros.
Created by Bob Haney, Arnold Drake, and Bruno Premiani, the Doom Patrol is a team of outcast superheroes who first appeared in 1963’s My Greatest Adventure #80 and then participated in various storylines. The group is formed by heroes with gifts that cause alienation and trauma, keeping them away from popularity and glory, for which they were named the World’s Weirdest Heroes.
The original team consisted of Chief, Robotman, Elasti-Girl, and Negative Man. The series also added characters like Crazy Jane, Rita Farr, Mr. Nobody, Cyborg, Madame Rouge, Willoughby Kipling, Dorothy Spinner, and more.
In season 4, the group unexpectedly travels to the future to find an unwelcome surprise. Faced with their imminent demise, the Doom Patrol must decide once and for all which is more important: their own happiness or the fate of the world? Set to release later this year, the second half is expected to find the titular team resolving the looming apocalyptic threat of Immortus and the imminent Buttpocalypse.
