Apr 17, 2024
Summary
Henry Cavill poked fun at his last Superman appearance in the DCEU during a recent screening event.
Cavill has been replaced as Superman by David Corenswet for the new DC Universe.
There were plans for a Man of Steel sequel featuring Brainiac that never came to pass.
Henry Cavill has joked about his last Superman appearance in the DCEU. Cavill started the shared DC universe with 2013’s Man of Steel. Despite being popular among fans as Superman, the actor would appear in a few DC movies over the years, being absent for long periods of time. Now that James Gunn’s Superman movie has cast David Corenswet as Superman, Cavill has poked fun at his last time as the Man of Steel in the DCEU.
In a screening for his upcoming movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (via Business Insider), Henry Cavill made a subtle joke about his Superman cameo in Black Adam, saying, “Turns out, I don’t have much luck with post-credit scenes. So, I may give up on those.” Cavill’s final time as Superman was bittersweet, teasing a future as the character that would never come to pass. Instead, Corenswet will now play Superman in the DCU’s Chapter One projects and beyond, with Cavill having no DC role at the moment.

Henry Cavill’s DCEU Post-Credits “Luck” Explained
Black Adam Was Meant To Start A New Superman Era
Cavill’s post-credits scene comment comes after the actor failed to restart his journey as Superman in the DCEU. Black Adam’s post-credits scene saw Cavill’s return as Superman for the first time in years. The moment teased a future fight between Superman and Black Adam, with Cavill’s Man of Steel sporting a brighter superhero costume and the actor having a classic Clark Kent hairstyle, hinting at a new era for the character.
Cavill’s Superman would not have been relegated to just cameos after that. Before Gunn’s Superman reboot film with Corenswet and the new DCU were announced, Cavill’s Man of Steel sequel was in the works at DC. Some details about Cavill’s canceled Man of Steel 2 have been revealed, such as who would have been the movie’s main villain. Superman would have gone up against Brainiac, marking the first time the villain showed up in a live-action film. The story for the film was being developed by Steven Knight, the creator of the popular Cillian Murphy-led series Peaky Blinders.
Unfortunately, Cavill never got the chance to star in his Man of Steel sequel. Only a few months after the actor made an emotional announcement on social media that he was firmly back as Superman, it was revealed that DC Studios’ recently hired Co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran would be rebooting the DCEU with the new DCU and that Cavill was out as Superman again. While the Man of Steel is in his past, the DCU chiefs have discussed other possible roles for the actor, so Henry Cavill could return to DC in the future.
Black Adam Dwayne Johnson stars as DC’s anti-hero in Black Adam, a villain, sometimes hero, with a brutal brand of justice. After emerging from 5,000-year imprisonment in Egypt, Black Adam awakes to the new world and decides to punish the wicked with a far less merciful justice. Unfortunately, his temper makes a big enough impact to summon the Justice League of America, sending the likes of Hawkman and Doctor Fate to contend with Black Adam and try to persuade him to ease up and take a more diplomatic path. Regardless of Black Adam’s grievances with the JLA, he soon realizes he’ll need to team up with them when an even more significant threat emerges to stop them. Man of Steel This new take on Superman’s origin story, Man of Steel, centers on young journalist Clark Kent/Kal-El, a being who came to Earth as a child from Krypton. Though he has trouble fitting in with his secret superpowers and questions his purpose in life, Clark is forced into action when fellow Kryptonian General Zod arrives on Earth hellbent on conquest. Clark is built by the values set upon him by his parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, who adopted him as an otherworldly orphan, inadvertently raising him to become the hero humanity needs. Man of Steel 2 Man of Steel 2 is the scrapped sequel to Zack Snyder’s first DC Extended Universe movie. Despite the vocal support of Henry Cavill and DC fans throughout the years, plans for a Man of Steel sequel officially fell through when James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe reboot was confirmed to replace Henry Cavill’s Superman with a new actor.
