Harrison Ford Has No Plans to Retire From Acting Any Time Soon
Sep 5, 2023
Finally, some good news, as Hollywood icon Harrison Ford has no plans to retire any time soon, with the Star Wars and Indiana Jones star hoping to keep acting for as long as possible. Speaking with Variety, the 80-year-old actor states that he feels “useful” when he’s acting, and has no plans whatsoever to give up working and bringing his delightfully grumpy face to the silver screen. When asked if he plans to retire, Ford replied…
“I don’t. I don’t do well when I don’t have work. I love to work. I love to feel useful. It’s my jones. I want to be helpful”
Ford has remained one of the most beloved A-list actors for decades now, and the actor clearly has no plans of slowing down, let alone retiring. After wrapping his time as Han Solo in the iconic Star Wars saga, Ford is now gearing up to join another major franchise, the MCU, with the actor taking over the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross from the late William Hurt. Continuing, Ford explains why he still has the acting bug all these years later…
“It is the people you get to work with. The intensity and the intimacy of collaboration. It’s the combined ambition somehow forged from words on a page. I don’t plan what I want to do in a scene. I don’t feel obliged to do anything. I’m naturally affected by things that I work on.”
It’s great to know that Ford plans to grace audiences with his presence for years to come, with Marvel fans excited to see what his ongoing role in the MCU will entail. However, just because Harrison Ford has no plans to retire, the same cannot be said for some of his most cherished characters…

Indiana Jones Will Retire in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Walt Disney Studios
Unlike Ford himself, Indiana Jones will walk away for good with the upcoming fifth installment, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. The sequel introduces audiences to an aged version of the adventurer, something which Ford was important to the story.
“I wanted it to be character driven. And I wanted us to confront the question of age straight on. Not to hide my age, but to take advantage of it in the telling of the story… And I wanted it to be about age because I think that rounds out the story that we’ve told and we brought it to the right place. I mean, the last one ended in kind of a suspended animation. There was not a real strong feeling of the conclusion or the closure that I always hoped for, the roundness and speaking to this issue of age. Not making jokes about it, but making it a real thing.”
Ford has confirmed that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be the last time he wears the famous fedora and, asked whether it was bittersweet to walk away from the character, Ford replied, “No. It’s time for me to grow up.” Of course, battling superheroes in the MCU suggests that Ford, thankfully, has no plans to actually grow up.
Directed by James Mangold, and starring Harrison Ford, John Rhys-Davies, Karen Allen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, and Mads Mikkelsen, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is scheduled to be released on June 30, 2023.
