Healed Featured, Reviews Film Threat

Nov 27, 2023

Movies are, in essence, swirling lights in the darkness, looking to steal your heart. Once snatched, some of those lights will make your heart pound as hard as it can. Director Meghan Weinstein’s seriously awesome psychological suspense film Healed will fill your chest with light before ripping your f*****g heart out.
Jazz Powers (Shantell Yasmine Abeydeera) and her wife Olivia (Emily Goss) are expecting their first child. Jazz was a former teen pop idol who now is a famous podcaster, while Olivia has a high profile as an influencer and is well known because of her software titan father. They have both been invited to participate in “a holistic healing through meditation” retreat run by revolutionary therapist Georgia Chambers (Guinevere Turner). Olivia regularly mediates and is already a fan of Georgia’s self-help app, so being invited to try the next level is a big deal for her. Jazz doesn’t go in for any of that stuff but is going for Olivia, as she feels this will help both of them prepare to be parents.

“Olivia regularly mediates…so being invited to try out the next level is a big deal for her.”
Georgia welcomes Olivia’s enthusiasm as well as Jazz’s skepticism, which skyrockets when Georgia takes away their phones and puts them in separate rooms. Georgia explains that total rest is needed for everyone participating, which Jazz takes as a fancy way of stopping her from sleeping with Olivia. After being introduced to a regiment of juices and teas, the couple is given an exercise where Olivia drives Jazz to a scenic spot for a walk, except Jazz will be blindfolded the whole time. Jazz lets Olivia lead her along, putting her trust in her. However, when they get back to the car, it won’t start.
With no phones, they face the prospect of being trapped outside for the night. Luckily enough, Kevin (Benjamin Barrett) comes across them in the dark. He explained he was a neighbor and could see about getting that car started. Olivia is grateful, while Jazz is pissed off about the whole situation. Neither saw Kevin under the hood slip back on the part he had previously removed. They also don’t see him contact Georgia afterward to report on the project’s progress…
