I Want to Work with the Duplass Brothers Featured, Reviews Film Threat

Sep 16, 2023

If you want to fulfill your dreams, just put it out there into the magical ether. That’s exactly the story of writer-director-star Drew Horton’s I Want to Work with the Duplass Brothers.
In their attempt to live the Hollywood dream, Drew and Eli Horton are content creators doing what all content creators do: creating content. Drew is dressed in an island vacation outfit, lipsynching the ever-popular, overused, annoying Jiggle Jiggle song. When Drew screws up the timing, Eli stops him, and before they can start it up again, Drew experiences an existential crisis. He decides to throw it out there, “I want to work with the Duplass Brothers!”

“He decides to throw it out there, ‘I want to work with the Duplass Brothers!’”
I admired the chutzpah of the Horton brothers for making a Duplass-style short film as an attempt to actually garner the attention of the Duplass Brothers in hopes of working with them. You gotta do what you gotta do. Am I right? Far be it from me to crush a dream.
As you might guess, I Want to Work with the Duplass Brothers is about an authentic feeling yet a scripted discussion about manifesting dreams. Mind you, not small ones, we’re talking lottery-level dreams. The conversation is low stakes but fun to watch and, at times, intentionally eye-rolling. Again, you gotta do what you gotta do. I can attest Drew Horton dug deep into this very self-aware comedic short with an ending that gets him off the hook in a way. The final result is thirteen minutes of levity with a dash of silliness.
Drew Horton may never work with the Duplass Brothers, but he has the whimsical short I Want to Work with the Duplass Brothers as a result.
