Jason Segel & Harrison Ford Return For More Therapeutic Hijinks On October 16

Sep 26, 2024

Are Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein the TV producer tandem to beat in the industry right now?  After the success of “Ted Lasso,” it’s hard to argue with that assessment. And while that show may get revived for a Season 4, don’t forget about the duo’s other Apple TV+ series “Shrinking,” which has its second season premiere on the streamer next month.

“Shrinking” may not have the Emmy-related success “Ted Lasso” does, but it’s still a winner in critics’ eyes, with a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score for Season 1.  Jason Segel stars in the series as a therapist who starts to breach the ethical barriers with his patients after the death of his wife to surprising results.  Harrison Ford also stars as Segel’s superior: an ornery senior therapist with Parkinson’s disease.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Shrinking” Season 2, courtesy of Apple TV+:
“Shrinking” follows a grieving therapist who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives … including his own.
Along with Segel and Ford, “Shrinking” also stars Christa Miller, Jessica Williams, Luke Tennie, Michael Urie, Lukita Maxwell, and Ted McGinley. Goldstein also appears as a special guest star in Season 2.
Warner Bros. Television produces “Shrinking” for Apple TV+, with Lawrence and Goldstein as co-creators through Lawrence’s Doozer Productions. Executive producers on the series include Segel, Goldstein, Neil Goldman, James Ponsoldt, Jeff Ingold, Liza Katzer, Randall Keenan Winston, Annie Mebane, Rachna Fruchbom, and Brian Gallivan.
So will “Shrinking” Season 2 fill the “Ted Lasso”-sized void for Apple TV+ at next year’s Emmy Awards?  Actually, Apple’s partnership with Warner Bros. Television has two hit series who could do well at the annual awards show. “Bad Monkey,” the companies’ other series after “Lasso” and “Shrinking,” also scored high with critics earlier this year. If the latest episodes of “Shrinking” also do well, that all but guarantees another season of “Ted Lasso.”
“Shrinking” Season 2 premieres exclusively on Apple TV+ with two episodes on October 16, with one new episode premiering weekly through December 25. Watch the new trailer for the upcoming season below.
