is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2025.

Jon Bernthal has been spotted on the set of the upcoming MCU series, Daredevil: Born Again. This is the first we have seen of the actor’s return, with Bernthal taking a photo with a fan and sporting the bruises and blood that are so often splashed across the Marvel vigilante’s face. You can check out the new image of Jon Bernthal (who can be seen with his stunt double behind him) on the set of Daredevil: Born Again below.

Several glimpses behind the scenes of Daredevil: Born Again have emerged over the last few months, with one of the more recent seemingly teasing the influence of The Punisher on the MCU. Images (and some footage) shows a man sporting a skull-emblazoned vest and hooded sweatshirt pulling a gun and taking down what appears to be a man in a costume resembling the superhero The White Tiger.

While he may be wearing the skull, this is unlikely to be Frank Castle, who does not usually shoot his targets dead from behind. Instead, this likely confirms the rumors that Daredevil: Born Again will feature several Punisher copycats dispensing justice in a way that Castle does not approve of.

Jon Bernthal Initially ‘Hated’ What Was Being Done With The Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again

Daredevil: Born Again has undergone a major overhaul behind the scenes, with Bernthal having since revealed that he “hated what they were doing with [Daredevil] before the whole rewrite” and that he initially turned down reprising the role as “they hadn’t been getting it right.”

Thankfully, things have now been worked out, with Bernthal eager to bring back Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, a character he cares about “deeply.”

“I think there’s a reason why that character has resonated as deeply and strongly as he has. In the hearts and minds of comic book fans and first responders and people in the military and people all over the globe. I think there’s a little bit of Frank Castle in everybody. He exists very strongly inside me and I care about that character deeply. I also know that it’s absolutely essential that if we do it, we do it right and we have real sacred integrity to the source material and to what is at the core of Frank. I’m gonna do my absolute best to make sure that, if and when we do it, we do it right.”

Plot details for Daredevil: Born Again currently remain under wraps, but it is now hotly rumored that the series will take inspiration from the comic book arc Mayor Fisk. Running across Daredevil #595-600, the Mayor Fisk tale finds New York falling to The Kingpin as he becomes the city’s newly elected mayor. The story finds Matt Murdock working for Fisk (something that has been hinted at in earlier set images), with the Kingpin of Crime his talent for spin and false philanthropy to wage a war against costumed vigilantes.

Daredevil: Born Again will see several of the Netflix Daredevil stars return, including Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock / Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / Punisher, and Wilson Bethel as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter. New cast members include Margarita Levieva as Heather Glenn, Michael Gandolfini as Daniel Blade, and Sandrine Holt as Vanessa Fisk.

Daredevil: Born Again
is scheduled to premiere on Disney+ in 2025, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
