Kyle Chandler To Play Hal Jordan In James Gunn’s Upcoming Green Lantern Series

Sep 23, 2024

A couple of weeks ago, the rumors started flowing about who might star in James Gunn’s Max series, “Lanterns.” Names like Chris Pine and Josh Brolin were floating around, with the trades saying that Brolin actually passed on the role already. Well, it appears we now know who is going to play one-half of the dual leads in the show.

According to Deadline, Kyle Chandler is in talks to star as Hal Jordan in the forthcoming DCU series, “Lanterns.” Not a whole lot is known about the show at this time. What we know is that the series is going to follow two Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and John Stewart, as they investigate a murder on Earth. For those who aren’t familiar with the Green Lantern comic appearances, there isn’t just one Green Lantern. In fact, the Green Lantern Corps. has members throughout the universe. They all act as an intergalactic police force.
Chandler might be best known for his role in the TV series, “Friday Night Lights.” Since then, he’s been in a number of high-profile projects such as “The Wolf of Wall Street,” “Carol,” and “Manchester by the Sea.” He’s also stuck around on TV too, appearing in fairly recent shows like “Super Pumped,” “Catch-22,” and “Bloodline.”
Interestingly, Borys Kit, a THR reporter, posted on social media that he doesn’t believe Chandler’s contract includes any feature films. Now, that could mean a couple of different things. First, the most obvious answer is that not everything James Gunn does on TV will end up in a film. However, the best answer might be that Hal Jordan doesn’t survive “Lanterns” and John Stewart is expected to be the most notable Green Lantern in the DCU. Let’s be real, if Hal Jordan is around in the DCU, he’ll show up in a film. He’s just one of the most recognizable characters from the comics.
