Lucius & Scorpius Malfoy Stars Unite As They Eat Mystery Jelly Beans From Wizarding World
May 4, 2025
Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy in the classic Harry Potter movies, has officially met with his in-story grandson. As the Harry Potter TV reboot continues its pre-production phase, Isaacs elected to attend the Cursed Child play ahead of a recent performance. Set 19 years after the final movie, the story follows Albus Potter, Scorpius Malfoy, and Delphi Diggory, as they navigate an alternate universe created through time travel. The play opened in 2016 and has since been performed in London, New York City, Australia, Germany, Canada, and Japan.
After agreeing to speak at the Lyric Theatre production on Broadway, Isaacs elected to meet with the Scorpius actor, Erik C. Peterson. The two performed in a skit together, in which Peterson offered Isaacs two mysterious Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans. Check out the clip below:
After greeting Peterson relatively warmly, Isaacs accepts a bean, only to discover that there are only two beans available: peach and piña colada. After accepting peach, Peterson taps his bean with the piña colada-flavored snack, only for Isaacs to realize what he did, before quickly sneaking away. While funny, the scene takes direct inspiration from Isaac’s role in the final episode of The White Lotus season 3.
What The Cursed Child Sketch Means For Jason Isaacs
Piña Coladas Are Off Limits
This entire sketch is a callback to White Lotus season 3’s infamous piña coladas scene, which saw Timothy Ratliff (Jason Isaacs) attempting to kill his family with a poisoned drink. Having seen just how dangerous it can be, Isaacs understandably has no interest in a jelly bean that could remind him of the season’s ending. After all, the episode saw Timothy accidentally poisoning his son, and Scorpius Malfoy is Lucius’ grandson, so a second familial poisoning is not entirely an impossibility in this sketch.

Lucius Malfoy went through quite the fall from grace in Harry Potter, and his traumatic decline got its start long before Voldemort’s downfall.
Regardless of the inherent joke behind this sketch, it is also interesting for its Harry Potter connections, as Isaacs has previously described his concerns about being replaced by the upcoming TV show. He believes that the original Harry Potter cast will be “erased from history” as future generations are introduced to the franchise through the new stars. His decision to connect with the play’s cast could be an effort to cement his legacy with the character, even as HBO looks to replace him and the other original actors.
Our Take On The Harry Potter Piña Colada Sketch
The Joke Is Easy To Miss
Anyone unfamiliar with The White Lotus is likely to miss this joke, but even some viewers may overlook the connection, given just how different Isaacs looks without Lucius Malfoy’s long hair. Even the idea of Lucius walking away from his excitable grandson is entertaining, however, and certainly fits with his uptight personality. This sketch works on multiple levels, and it is also exciting to see that Isaacs is seemingly attending the Cursed Child play. He remains involved in the Harry Potter universe, even as the TV series continues development.
