MCU Johnny Storm Actor Offers Update On The Fantastic Four Filming Prep

Jun 15, 2024

Summary

Joseph Quinn is getting ready to bring the heat as the Human Torch in the upcoming Fantastic Four film in the MCU.
He is working with an amazing trainer to prep physically for the role, embracing the challenge ahead.
Quinn’s career was changed by Stranger Things, and he is now gearing up for multiple exciting projects.

Joseph Quinn, who will be playing the Human Torch in the upcoming Fantastic Four film in the MCU, has revealed his preparation for the role as the project begins filming in July. The new movie is one of the most anticipated Marvel Studios projects in their frequently shifting Phase 5 slate. Quinn joins Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bacharach as Marvel’s first family in their MCU debut outing, and the actor couldn’t help but gush over his soon-to-be castmates.

Speaking to GQ, Joseph Quinn said that he cannot wait to work with Pascal, Kirby, and Moss-Bacharach on the new movie. As the film moves closer and closer to its production date, Quinn revealed he still has two more projects to finish before work properly begins as the Human Torch/Johnny Storm. Quinn is currently working with Pedro Pascal on Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, but hasn’t had much interaction with his other castmates yet, saying “I’ve met Ebon very briefly, Vanessa I have lots of mutual friends with.” Before joining the MCU, Quinn is having a short break at one of England’s biggest music festivals, saying:

“God willing, I’m going to get myself to Glastonbury. And after that we’re into skin-tight suits and fire.”

Joining them in the new movie is John Malkovich in an undisclosed role, an actor who Quinn described as “one of my all-timers.” The actor was asked if Malkovich would be playing Dr. Doom in the movie – a popular fan-casting online – but the actor refused to comment.

Joseph Quinn is Getting Into Superhero Shape for The Fantastic Four

As with any modern superhero role, Joseph Quinn has to transform his body to don the Fantastic Four’s signature blue spandex. With an immensely busy schedule, Quinn has only gone in for a costume fitting for Fantastic Four, but his physical preparation has already begun. The actor briefly discussed his training schedule, saying:

“I’m eating stuff and lifting things. I’m working with someone great—if you’d cast someone as a personal trainer, you’d cast him, he’s a rhinoceros of a man. He’s very good at his job, he gets me to do the things I don’t want to do.”

Joseph Quinn has appeared and starred in numerous critically acclaimed and internationally loved projects and franchises. His most famous role, pre-MCU, is in Netflix’s Stranger Things as Eddie Munson. Quinn attributes a lot of the projects he’s now working on to his role in Netflix’s hit sci-fi series, simply saying “Stranger Things changed my life professionally in ways I couldn’t imagine.”

As for upcoming projects, the aforementioned Gladiator II, starring Paul Mescal, is scheduled to hit theaters on November 22, 2024. Quinn is also working alongside a host of British talent in Alex Garland and Ray Mednoza’s Warfare, produced by A24. The actor will appear alongside Cosmo Jarvis (Shogun), Will Poulter (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), and American stars Charles Melton (May December), and Michael Gandolfini (The Many Saints of Newark). The film is currently in production (as one of the two projects Quinn is wrapping up before Fantastic Four) and sees the ensemble cast playing Navy SEALS. Plot details and a release date have yet to be revealed.
