Melissa Benoist Joins Masters of the Universe: Revolution Cast as Teela
Mar 18, 2023
Mattel has announced that Melissa Benoist has joined the cast of Kevin Smith’s Masters of the Universe: Revolution, with the news comes just in time for International Women’s Day. The Supergirl star will be voicing the heroine Teela, joining Chris Wood as He-Man, Mark Hamill as Skeletor, and William Shatner in a mystery role. Benoist is also replacing Sarah Michelle Gellar as the voice of Teela from the prior season of the animated series, dubbed Masters of the Universe: Revelation.
This project also marks the third collaboration between Benoist and Kevin Smith, who’s developing Revolution for Netflix, as Benoist previously appeared in both Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and Clerks III. Smith is also serving as an executive producer alongside Mattel’s Fred Soulie, Rob David, and Christopher Keenan, as well as Ted Biaselli. Working with Smith again was a big factor in getting Benoist to take on the voice role of Teela for this project.
“I jumped at the opportunity to work alongside my friend, Kevin Smith and join the Revolution family as another bold and fearless heroine,” Benoist said in a statement. “I look forward to sharing the next evolution of Teela’s story with fans.”
Fred Soulie, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Mattel Television, adds: “On the heels of our 40th anniversary, He-Man is more prevalent in pop culture than ever before, which is why we’re especially excited to bring the force that is Melissa Benoist into the fold. Melissa already exemplifies every aspect of Teela’s formidable personality, and we know that she will continue to showcase the same heart as she did in Supergirl, providing audiences with a new iteration of a classic character synonymous with strength and heroism.”
Aside from Supergirl, Benoist is also known for her roles in the shows Glee, Homeland, and Waco. She is also producing and set to star in the upcoming HBO Max series The Girls on the Bus. Benoist has previously appeared in films like Whiplash, The Longest Ride, and Sun Dogs.

The Revelation Story Continues in Masters of the Universe: Revolution
Picking up from where Masters of the Universe: Revelation left off, Masters of the Universe: Revolution brings Benoist’s Teela teaming up with He-Man and the rest of the Masters as they “struggle to save Eternia from the tangles of darkness.
Revolution is an all-new story that focuses on the classic He-Man vs. Skeletor rivalry in a way audiences have never seen before. It’s technology up against magic as He-Man and the heroic warriors face the forces of Skeletor and a deadly threat to the Planet in the next epic chapter in the battle for Eternia.”
Masters of the Universe: Revolution will debut on Netflix sometime in 2024. For now, you can stream Masters of the Universe: Revelation on Netflix.
