Mia Goth Boards the Epic Cast of Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’
Feb 15, 2025
Another star is joining Christopher Nolan’s voyage across the wine-dark sea. Scream queen Mia Goth is the latest addition to the cast of The Odyssey. Variety reports that her role in the film is being kept under wraps.
Little is known about Nolan’s adaptation of the ancient Greek epic, nor is it known what role Goth (or any of her co-stars) will be playing. If Goth’s prior filmography is any indication, however, it’s going to be a spooky one. The British actor has made her career in the horror genre, with roles in A Cure for Wellness, Suspiria, Infinity Pool, and Ti West’s trilogy of X, Pearl, and MaXXXine. She can next be seen in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, and is also slated to star in Marvel’s much-delayed new Blade movie. The Odyssey, meanwhile, will be released in theaters everywhere next summer on July 17, 2026.
What Do We Know About ‘The Odyssey’?
The Odyssey will be based on the ancient poem by Homer, which dates back to the 7th or 8th century BCE. It centers around Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his arduous sea voyage to return home after the Trojan War. Over the course of a ten-year journey, he runs afoul of witches, monsters, and gods. Nolan’s adaptation will boast a cast worthy of a 1950s Biblical epic or a 1970s disaster movie, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Elliot Page, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Lupita Nyong’o, Samantha Morton, John Leguizamo, Benny Safdie, Hamish Patel, Bill Irwin, Will Yun Lee, and Jesse Garcia, all of whose roles are as-yet unrevealed. The movie will shoot this spring on-location in Sicily, and like many of Nolan’s previous films, will be shot in IMAX; in fact, the film has been said to utilize never-before-seen IMAX technology. Nolan will write, direct, and produce the film; his wife Emma Thomas will also produce via their Syncopy banner.
As one of the foundational texts of world literature, The Odyssey has been adapted for TV and film many times. Kirk Douglas starred in 1954’s Ulysses, one of the more notable big-screen adaptations, while Armand Assante played the lead in an ambitious 1997 NBC miniseries adaptation. Cold Mountain and O Brother, Where Art Thou? both transpose the ancient tale to a more contemporary setting; the US Civil War and the Great Depression, respectively.
The Odyssey will be released in theaters on July 17, 2026. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates.
