_”Only our people know how to protect this mountain.”_ Submarine Deluxe debuted a trailer for an acclaimed documentary film titled _To Hold a Mountain_, telling the story of a family in the mountains in the country of Montenegro in Europe. This first premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, where the film won the top World Cinema Grand Jury Prize for Documentary this year. It’s an incredibly moving, invigorating story of a mama and her young daughter living on the land. Up in Montenegro’s highlands, a shepherd mother and daughter defend their ancestral land from NATO military training threats, recalling their family’s past violence. The mother, named Gara, becomes a real legend when she decides to take on the government directly and fight them herself with protests & more. “Gara emerges as an unexpected leader in the fight to defend Sinjajevina but, as Nada grows into young womanhood, the encroaching violence on the land awakens questions about her past, her future, and cycle of harm within her family she hopes to break.” Highly recommend this one – a genuinely heartening documentary discovery in 2026.
