Quantumania Writer Rallies Against Fan Backlash to The Movie’s Ending.
Jun 20, 2023
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania has landed well with many fans who have been missing the all-out chaos of a Marvel Cinematic Universe action adventure. While many of Phase 4’s movies have been introverted and reflective, Quantumania lives up to its title by being a manic two hours of crazy Quatum Realm environments, huge battles and a large smattering of wow-moments including from Jonathan Majors as Kang.
However, one thing that has brought some criticism is the movie’s ending, which some fans feel was all a bit too clean and tied up. Quantumania writer Jeff Loveness doesn’t’ necessarily agree, and recently told Fandom that the movie’s conclusion actually avoids simply repeating Ant-Man and the Wasp’s ending. He said

“I kind of love the ending that we landed on. I hear what people are saying but I feel if you just strand Ant-Man in the Quantum Realm again, that is exactly what happened at the end of the second movie, and the way out of it is exactly what happens in Endgame.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania recently saw a huge drop in its second weekend box office, but the film is still way ahead of any other release of 2023 so far. While its reign at the top of the box office chart will likely slip over the course of the year, the film has delivered the biggest and wildest Ant-Man movie yet, and set the MCU on the road to Avengers: Secret Wars.

Quantumania’s Director Believes the Movie Is a Perfect Arc For Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man

When it comes to the stories of the MCU, there is often a lot of expectation from fans, with wild internet theories usually ending up leading to disappointment the actual film is a little more grounded. As far as Quantumania is concerned, the spectacle of Marvel is very much in play during its final act, but director Peyton Reed also believes that the whole story from start to finish is a perfect arc for Scott Lang and also manages to flip the hero’s position. He said:
“Personally, for our heroes, I like the idea that at the beginning of the movie, Scott is literally an open book. He’s told his story to the world through his book. And it’s the other members of the family that are keeping secrets from him. Janet is keeping secrets about the Quantum Realm and what her life was like down there. Hope and Hank are keeping secrets from Scott about what they’ve been working on with Cassie in the basement. Cassie has been keeping secrets from her dad about ‘Oh, you were in jail before? What?’ So everyone’s keeping secrets from Scott and then you wind up at the end of the movie and everybody’s secrets are out. Except now Scott has a secret. And it’s this self doubt about whether he’s actually vanquished Kang. That seemed like a cool structure.”
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quatumania has so far earned one of the lowest MCU scores from Rotten Tomatoes critics, but is already on the verge of passing $400 million at the worldwide box office.
