Showtime’s Dark, Culty Survivalist Series Returns On March 24, Elijah Wood & Lauren Ambrose Join Cast

Jan 13, 2023

Few TV shows are as buzzy as Showtime‘s “Yellowjackets.” It’s the second-most streamed series in the network’s history after “Dexter: New Blood,” and its positive reception with critics speaks for itself. Look no further than its 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes as proof. Not too shabby for a show with quite the niche: a dark, culty, and survivalist teen drama that alternates between two separate timelines.

But for “Yellowjackets” fans, the series slakes the thirst for something a little sinister in primetime programming. And now, after a year, the wait is over: Season 2 of “Yellowjackets” premieres on March 24, and Showtime has a teaser to up the hype.
Here’s a brief synopsis of the show, courtesy of Showtime:
Wildly talented high school girls’ soccer players descend into savage clans after their plane crashes in the remote northern wilderness. Twenty-five years later, they discover that what began in the wild is far from over.
Of course, “Yellowjacket” watchers know there’s more to the show than that. There are also cults, kidnappings, murders, and possible cannibalism to be had in this deliciously lurid series. So expect that and more in Season 2. As for the teaser, it only hints at what’s to come, with Elijah Wood‘s new character saying to Christina Ricci‘s Sammi, “Kidnapping, cults, death … your friendships are a little more complicated than most.” Yeah, no shit, pal.
“Yellowjackets” Season 2 also sees the show add new cast members. Wood and Lauren Ambrose headline the newcomers. Other additions include Simone Kessell, Jason Ritter, Nia Sondaya (who replaces Keeya King as teen Akilah from Season One), Nicole Maines, and François Arnaud.
And of course, “Yellowjackets” already boasts an impressive ensemble cast. Ricci, Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, and Juliette Lewis lead the series cast, including Steven Krueger, Warren Kole, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Nélisse, Sammi Hanratty, and Sophie Thatcher. In addition, Kevin Alves, a recurring role in Season 1, is now a series regular in Season 2.
So how will “Yellowjackets” live up to the hype of its first season? After 7 Emmy nominations last year, expect this show to retain its cult following. Season 2 of the series starts streaming on Showtime on March 24. Season 2 premieres on-air on Showtime two days later on March 26, at 9pm ET. Watch the teaser for “Yellowjackets” Season 2 below.
