Tatiana Maslany Doesn’t Think Season 2 Is Happening After “We Blew Our Budget”

Jan 16, 2024

There are a lot of questions surrounding the TV shows being produced by Marvel Studios as we head into 2024. It’s fairly obvious “Echo” was dumped by the studio this month, and there have been rumblings for months now that Marvel Studios has to completely change how it produces TV moving ahead. All that to say, shows that previously debuted and seemed pretty well liked, such as “Ms. Marvel,” “Moon Knight,” and “She-Hulk,” don’t seem like they’ll be returning anytime soon. In the case of the latter, the show’s star all but confirms the demise of the short-lived series.

In an appearance on the Codenames LIVE! – The New Class Twitch stream (via The Direct), Tatiana Maslany made an appearance to, well, play the beloved game, “Codenames.” However, as you might expect, during the stream, she was asked about the possibility of Season 2 of “She-Hulk.” Her response, though said a bit in jest, seemed to shut the door on the possibility of another batch of episodes.
“I don’t think so,” said Maslany. “I think we blew our budget, and Disney was like, ‘No thanks.’”

Honestly, it’s not all that surprising to hear Maslany say that “She-Hulk”—the series, not the character—is done. The show, while pretty well received by critics, wasn’t the massive success on Disney+ that Marvel might have hoped it would be. Then there was all the talk about behind-the-scenes issues and an exploding VFX budget. Not only that, the show was incredibly polarizing (which isn’t a bad thing, honestly), as it happily took on troll culture with its fourth-wall breaks. But with the current status of Marvel Studios being in flux, and the TV side of things really seeming to be on shaky ground, it’s not going to shock many people to find out that we won’t see anymore seasons of “She-Hulk.”
Of course, this is Marvel Studios and the MCU, so it would be silly to assume we won’t see Maslany suit up as the super strong, green lawyer in the future. She-Hulk is a big character in the Marvel pantheon, and it would be unfortunate if Marvel didn’t use her in films or other TV shows, even though the CGI budget is always going to be a concern.
