Taylor Sheridan’s New ‘Yellowstone’ Sequel ‘Dutton Ranch’ Breaks Streaming Records
May 28, 2026
Yellowstone ran for six seasons, most of them with great success, but the show landed on a rocky conclusion. On-set turmoil, coupled with clashes between stars and producers, left the final seasons delayed and air dates in question for some time. Meanwhile, Beth ( Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) began to outshine series key player John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner), and it was clear that the most compelling narrative belonged to the supporting cast. Beth and Rip’s highly anticipated return in Dutton Ranch has been met with much fanfare, including a positive review at MovieWeb and an 88% critics’ approval rating at Rotten Tomatoes. And the record-breaking viewership numbers are now in. Essentially acting as a sixth season of Yellowstone, Dutton Ranch has now landed the biggest-ever original series launch on Paramount+. According to the streamer’s figures, Dutton Ranch landed 12.9 million views. The metric Paramount+ uses to determine views is total minutes streamed divided by the show’s runtime, with the first night garnering 2.9 million views for the show’s two-episode premiere, whereas the Paramount Network drew 1.9 million viewers on its May 15 broadcast. The premiere also landed the top slot for entertainment telecast for adults 18–49 and was the most watched show for the week of May 11.

Social media channels have been humming as well, with Dutton Ranch drawing 990 million video views and generating 2 million engagements across its platforms in the first three days after posting content. Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan has been on a tear as he’s moved from showrunner to executive producer on Dutton Ranch. Sheridan’s The Madison drew 8 million views and the second season of Landman earned 13 weeks at the top of Nielsen’s top ten original series list. The Madison will be returning for season two and Landman for season three.

Dutton Ranch has defied expectations, much like Yellowstone did during its first seasons. Sheridan has had an incredible ten years or so, going from struggling actor to notable screenwriter with Sicario and Hell or High Water, and now arguably the biggest showrunner in television. His production deal will be moving from Paramount to NBCUniversal in 2029, but for the time being, he continues to crank out hit after hit for Paramount. One wonders why Paramount let him walk to a competitor, but perhaps the studio was not willing to pay the reported nearly one billion dollars Sheridan’s deal is worth at NBC. Meanwhile, Dutton Ranch will certainly continue racking up the numbers and keeping eager viewers awaiting new episodes every Friday through July 3.
