‘The Boys’ Jensen Ackles Heaps Praise on Jared Padalecki for Going “Out of His Comfort Zone”

Apr 15, 2025

Jensen Ackles is set to return as Soldier Boy in the final ever season of The Boys, and he’s bringing his former Supernatural co-star with him. Alongside Ackles, Jared Padalecki will also star in Season 5 of The Boys, marking the long-awaited reunion between the pair and showrunner Eric Kripke. Ahead of the final season, Jensen Ackles hyped up Padalacki’s performance in The Boys, and described how it felt to reunite with his long-time former Supernatural co-star. Padalecki’s character in The Boys hasn’t been revealed, but the actor said it pushed him way outside his comfort zone.
During a recent appearance at Creation Entertainment’s “The Road So Far… The Road Ahead: Creation Boston” convention (via @FangasmSPN on X) both Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles took to the stage and were asked about the upcoming fifth and final season of The Boys. When asked how it felt to start working together again on The Boys, Ackles began “To be fair, we never really stopped,” continuing, “It was very easy, and very familiar being on set together.” While the pair felt incredibly comfortable working together, Ackles said that working on Supernatural and The Boys, despite them both being created by Eric Kripke, couldn’t be further apart, calling it “a very different playground.”

According to Eric Kripke, fans can expect a ‘Gen V’ Season 2 trailer drop and date announcement soon.

As expected, Jensen Ackles said he couldn’t reveal any details about The Boys Season 5’s production. But, he did tease Jared Padalecki’s performance in the series. While The Boys is a completely different wheelhouse to Supernatural, one that pushed Padalcki outside his comfort zone, Ackles was quick to praise his co-star for rising to the occasion. Ackles said:

“I will say that it was fun to see Jared out of his comfort zone. But, you handled it with grace, and you were awesome, and, I already told you this, but I was proud of what you put in. It was good in this show with this people that I’ve come to know, and deliver the way he did.”

‘The Boys’ Is Coming to an End

Hype is slowly building for the final ever season of The Boys. First airing in 2019, The Boys has managed to remain a staple in the increasingly stagnating superhero genre, thanks to its complex character work, twist-filled plot, and scathing satire of the American entertainment and political systems. Ackles made his The Boys debut in Season 3 as Soldier Boy, the foul-mouthed “hero” with incredibly outdated ideals. While the character was absent for Season 4, the season finale revealed that Soldier Boy would return to help close out the show.
Season 5 of The Boys is currently in production. Fans cannot wait for the big showdown between Homelander (Antony Starr) and Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) to finally come to a head after four seasons of teasing. Meanwhile, we’re all hoping that Hughie (Jack Quaid) and Annie (Erin Moriarty) get the happy ending they deserve. Although, knowing The Boys, that is incredibly unlikely. Following Season 5 of the core show, the franchise will continue through spin-offs like Gen V, and the new prequel series, Vought Rising.
