Warner Bros. has released a new promo spot Brad Pitt’s upcoming Formula 1 racing movie F1, which comes from Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski. In the film, Pitt plays a seven-time world champion Formula One race driver who comes out of retirement to race again and to also mentor a promising rookie. Pitt is also actually driving a real F1 race car in a real race for the film. The rest of the cast also includes Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia and Samson Kayo.Pit previously talked about the film saying: “The vibe is amazing, to get to be part of it and tell our story. The [F1] teams have opened their doors to us. I play a guy who raced in the 1990s who has a horrible crash and disappears, to race in other disciplines. “His friend, played by Javier Bardem, the team owner, contacts him. They’re last in the grid, they haven’t scored a point. But they have a young phenom, played by Damson Idris, and they bring me in as kind of a Hail Mary. You’ve never seen speed, you’ve never seen the G-forces like this, the footage is really, really exciting.”When talking about how they are going to shoot this film, it was explained: “They’ve spent 18 months taking what they learned on Top Gun Maverick to develop the smallest moveable 6k camera ever designed to take the viewer into the cockpit. A cockpit in which their stars will actually drive. “That’s right. Brad Pitt driving an F1 car from Silverstone onwards. The car has been designed by Mercedes and is already testing (you may have seen a video online.) As are their actors, in sim and real life. Lewis Hamilton is in daily communication and is advising on storyline and script to ensure it’s the most accurate racing film ever made.”The filmmaking team behind the film “are determined to make the most accurate, most impressive race movie anyone has ever seen.” Kosinski said that it’s “coming fast” and explained that they are shooting it using the techniques they learned while making Top Gun: Maverick.”He said: “It’s fascinating. I can’t wait to show people behind the scenes. We’re going to be shooting on the tracks with real cars and trying to take everything I learned in Top Gun to apply to Formula One. It’ll be fun.”He also discussed the way the film is being shot, saying: “Certainly seeing people react to an in-camera, authentically captured film like Top Gun makes us all feel good that our approach works and is appreciated by audiences.”He went on to talk about applying that to his next film, saying: “It’s almost funny to me to see people who are so enamored with real photography. Younger people almost haven’t seen a lot of it. “They’re so used to CGI [computer-generated images] being a tool of big movies that when you shoot something for real, it feels innovative. “That’s exactly the approach for Formula One … to shoot at the real races and real cars and capture it. It’s going to be a huge challenge but an exciting one for me.”The movie will be released on June 27, 2025
