‘Thunderbolts*’ Star Reveals How Sentry Would Fare Against Homelander
Apr 30, 2025
Thunderbolts* is less than a week away, and now that promotion for the film has kicked into high gear, the cast and crew behind the film have been able to talk about their characters in more depth. One such actor is Lewis Pullman
, who will be playing the character Bob and his alter egos The Sentry/Void. Those familiar with the character in Marvel Comics know that The Sentry is an incredibly powerful, Superman-esque hero who has been able to go toe-to-toe with some of the Universe’s strongest heroes. However, how would The Sentry fare against similarly powered heroes from other universes?
In an interview with ComicBook, Pullman was asked how The Sentry would do against other similarly powered individuals, such as Superman, Omni-Man, and even Homelander from The Boys. Pullman would respond jokingly, saying that The Sentry would need to sort out his mental problems before going up against characters of that caliber, saying:
“Against Superman, Homelander, and Omni Man? Jeez, you know, I think he would have to tap out for some therapy, I think he feels like he has some impostors that to be like, ‘sorry, can we pause this for one second? I’m just gonna call my guy.’ But give him a couple of years.”‘

First reactions to Thunderbolts* have praised the film for its character work and emotional depth, suggesting that the movie will delve deeper into Bob’s troubled psyche that he has become so well-known for in the comics. So, despite the humor in Pullman’s response, it’s clear that he’s referring to the character’s state of mind in the upcoming movie. The character has long struggled with split personalities, making the answer more clear-cut.
The Sentry’s Comic Book Counterpart is a Force to be Reckoned With

When looking at the characters various matchups in Marvel Comics, The Sentry has shown impressive feats of strength. Perhaps the most notable is during the 2010 comic event Siege, which saw Norman Osborn using The Sentry as his own pawn, leading to his transformation into The Void. As the Void, he fought several of the Avengers and was the primary antagonist force that took the combined efforts of several heroes to take him down. While it’s hard to say who would win in a fight between Sentry and characters like Omni-Man and Homelander, it would at least be a close fight should his dual personalities not get in the way of each other.
Pullman’s comments about giving Bob “a couple of years” could suggest the character will be in a different mental state when he makes an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. The Thunderbolts have already been confirmed to be in the film as shown in the casting announcement video released earlier this year, so Bob may have to show off his superhuman strength against new multiversal threats. However, there is always the possibility that the Void becomes a future problem in the MCU.
The Sentry still has a role to play in future Marvel projects, and will hopefully be able to showcase more of his impressive strength in the next Avengers film. Other characters like Captain Marvel, Thor, Adam Warlock, and some of the Eternals have showcased similarly strong abilities, though they haven’t been at the forefront of the MCU in recent memory. As the stakes get higher in the Multiverse Saga, more characters like Bob will be needed to face off against characters like Dr. Doom.
