Tom Cruise Offers a Little Update on His $200 Million Movie That He’ll Shoot in Space — GeekTyrant

Jul 18, 2023

The big project that Tom Cruise is going to be working on after Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two is the movie that he is going to shoot in outer space. Doug Liman is set to direct this movie and it comes from a script written by Christopher McQuarrie. Universal Pictures has committed $200 million for the film’s budget and both Space X and NASA will be involved with making the production happen. This is going to be quite the film and Cruise is going to become the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the International Space Station while shooting the movie. The head of Universal Pictures, Donna Langley, teased: “Tom Cruise is taking us to space. He’s taking the world to space. That’s the plan. We have a great project in development with Tom, that does contemplate him doing just that. Taking a rocket up to the space station and shooting and hopefully being the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the space station.”It’s explained that the movie “actually [mostly] takes place on Earth, and then the character needs to go up to space to save the day.” She then describes Cruise’s character as “a down-on-his-luck guy who finds himself in the position of being the only person who could save Earth.”We’ve now got a little update from Cruise to share with you from the premiere of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One in New York. When asked about it Cruise said he didn’t have a production start date set, but, “We’ve been working on it diligently and we’ll see where we go.”As of right now, Cruise is focused on finishing making Dead Reckoning Part Two, before he can start plotting his next movie. Writer and director Christopher McQuarrie said that he and Cruise are getting right back to work on Part Two as soon as the Part One press tour ends.McQuarrie said: “We finish this tour, and on our way back to the U.K. we stop to scout along the way. We hit the ground running as soon as we get back. I get two days of vacation between here and Tokyo and I’m back on.”While I’m excited for more Mission: Impossible movies, I’m ready to watch Cruise blast off into space to save the day!Source: Variety
