Uzo Aduba, Randall Park & More Star In New Shondaland Screwball Mystery Thriller Coming To Netflix

Feb 19, 2025

Let’s set the stage, a murderer is lurking in the halls of the White House, and the only person who can identify that looming threat is Cordelia, luckily, she happens to be the best detective in the world. That’s the tantalizing concept behind “The Residence,” an upcoming Shondaland project inspired by Kate Andersen Brower’s book of the same name — with Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers serving as executive producers. “The Residence,” comes from creator, showrunner, writer, and executive producer Paul William Davies.
Netflix has released a trailer for the upcoming series dropping next month that sees a detective story centered around political tensions, hidden secrets, and lurking dangers as all these elements will complicate the case.

An impressive set of talents brings this story to life. Uzo Aduba stars as Cupp, a consulting detective for the Metropolitan Police Department. The fascinating character finds her own Watson in FBI Special Agent Edwin Park, played by Randall Park. Together, this pair of crime solvers will encounter world leaders, dignitaries, White House staff, and a few surprises along the way. Giancarlo Esposito, Edwina Findley, Molly Griggs, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Al Mitchell, Dan Perrault, Bronson Pinchot, Julieth Restrepo, Mel Rodriguez, Susan Kelechi Watson, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and Mary Wiseman co-star on “The Residence.”
“The Residence is a different take and spin on the house that we all know — it’s a peek inside a world that we don’t often get to see,” Aduba says, likening it to another one of her classic Netflix series, “Orange Is the New Black.” “The show begs the question, ‘Who runs the house?’ And the answer is not what we think it is.”
Viewers can also expect numerous guest stars. Netflix has already announced Eliza Coupe, Jane Curtin, Paul Fitzgerald, Barrett Foa, Al Franken, Spencer Garrett, Taran Killam, Julian McMahon, Kylie Minogue, Matt Oberg, and Brett Tucker
The series’ official synopsis from Netflix:
“132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. The Residence is a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and backstairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.“
