Is Wes Anderson entering a prolific period of his career? It certainly appears so, as after premiering “Asteroid City” at Cannes in May, he has a new short ready for the Venice Film Festival. The streamer now has the exact date when subscribers should expect Anderson’s short film to arrive: September 27. “Henry Sugar” only runs 39 minutes, but it stars a couple of Ralph Fiennes, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dev Patel, Ben Kingsley, and Richard Ayode in another Roald Dahl adaptation for Anderson.
Here’s an official synopsis for “The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar,” courtesy of Netflix:
A beloved Roald Dahl story about a rich man who learns about a guru who can see without using his eyes and then sets out to master the skill in order to cheat at gambling.
Anderson writes and directs the short, structuring it in four chapters that lead up to Dahl’s story. Producers on “Henry Sugar” include Anderson, Steven Rales, and Jeremy Dawson. Co-producers include Octavia Peissel, John Peet, and Alice Dawson.
Additionally, check out new specialty art for Anderson’s latest made exclusively for Netflix. It’s not much, but it depicts Cumberbatch meditating while levitating in the air. “The Wonderful Story Of Henry Sugar” is one of Dahl’s darker fantastical tales, so it’ll be curious to see where Anderson goes with it. The short premieres at Venice on September 1, so expect a teaser trailer soon.
