Zack Snyder’s Next Pic At Netflix Is A High-Stakes Actioner About The LAPD
Nov 15, 2024
After a zombie heist movie, two poorly received sci-fi epics, and an animated series about Norse mythology, Zack Snyder‘s next project at Netflix is…an action movie about the LAPD? THR reports that, yes, something more grounded than superheroes, comic book adaptations, bad space opera, and the undead is indeed Snyder’s next feature film. Wonders will never cease.

Snyder will direct the pic, and co-write with Kurt Johnstad, his collaborator on “300,” “Rebel Moon,” and more. He’ll also produce with wife and partner Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller via their Stone Quarry banner. As for a title, a cast, even a premise, fans will have to wait on those. All anyone knows right now is that the pic is a high-stakes action thriller following the Los Angeles Police Department; quite a departure for Snyder, but possibly about about-face after how poorly “Rebel Moon” did.If one looks back far enough in Snyder’s career, however, this new movie sounds eerily similar to what was supposed to be his debut feature: “S.W.A.T.” from 2003. Snyder exited the Sony film after disagreements over the film’s rating (he wanted an R-rated one while the studio wanted PG-13) and went on to make his “Dawn Of The Dead” remake instead. Now, twenty-one years later, he returns to a project that sounds like it could be that hard-R action movie he wanted to make.
Snyder talked to THR briefly about how the new project came to be, with he and Netflix’s film head Dan Lin discussing possible movie ideas. “Years ago, and I had a conversation about our shared interest in telling a compelling and visceral character-driven story set within the intense, complex and captivating landscape of the LAPD,” explained the director. “It’s a conversation that has stuck with me. So, as you would expect, I’m very excited to now have the opportunity to partner with Dan, along with the rest of my amazing partners at Netflix, in developing this story.”
This marks the fourth movie between Stony Quarry and Netflix since Snyder made “Army Of The Dead” in 2021. Since then, the pair have also made the two “Rebel Moon” movies, and the “Dead” prequel “Army Of Thieves.” Stone Quarry and Netflix also teamed up for “Twilight Of The Gods,” Snyder’s animated series about Norse mythology, which hit the streamer in September. As for when this LAPD actioner hits Netflix? The best guess is 2026 at the earliest.
