Woodgrove Featured, Reviews Film Threat
Aug 15, 2024
Lee Richards’ horror short, Woodgrove, serves as a stark warning to stay out of the forest despite my love for the great outdoors.
After losing someone close, Harry (Tyler Day) and his best mates, Josh (Robson Medler) and Sam (Harry Vinall), head out to Woodgrove for an evening of camping in hopes of getting Harry’s mind off his recent tragedy. Just before the start of their afternoon hike, Harry places a photo of the woman he loved on the ground where her body was found.
Soon, the trio finds the perfect spot to pitch a tent. That night, a scream awakens Harry, but Josh and Sam claim they didn’t hear a thing. The now restless Josh leaves the tent, and when he doesn’t come back, Harry makes a terrifying discovery.
“…an evening of camping in hopes of getting Harry’s mind off his recent tragedy.”
Writer/director Lee Richards took my advice (probably not). The desert or the forest are great, inexpensive places to film your indie film. Horror feels like it’s expensive to produce, but it really isn’t. With little to no money, Richards sets the mood and weaves a tale of horror. He quickly establishes a sympathetic protagonist with Harry along with his goofball friends and then drops the legend of a monster/serial killer in the woods.
Woodgrove is a chilling reminder that the forest holds more than just natural beauty. Lee Richards expertly crafts a tense and atmospheric horror short, proving that even with a minimal budget, you can create a gripping and terrifying experience. With strong character dynamics and a haunting setting, this film is a must-watch for fans of indie horror.
