A Georgia Gem of a Restaurant
Sep 8, 2024
During a recent trip to Florida, we decided to take a road trip up to Georgia to check out some attractions but in an area where the infamous The Walking Dead TV show was shot we vastly searched across social media for Walking Dead-inspired attractions to no avail (cmon guys, a museum wouldn’t hurt!). What we did find was a restaurant owned by none other than show creator Greg Nicotero and The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus.
As we arrived in the town of Senoia, a filming location for the show we spotted Nic and Norman’s in the beautiful surroundings that make up this picturesque town.
The Senoia location was the first Nic and Norman’s but the pair have expanded their restaurants to four other locations and one bite of my main course later I quickly discovered why they were so popular and it’s NOTHING to do with the TV show they worked on together.
Nic and Norman’s looks nothing like I thought it would, its outside appearance looks classy and up-market whereas I was expecting it to lean more into the TV show/zombie angle. Inside was fancy decor with art deco photos on the wall depicting zombies/horror moments done in a tasteful and awesome way.
What I loved about Nic and Norman’s was just how much inspiration they seemed to have had from the movie The Shining, the chandelier atop the ceiling, the endless bar, the colour palette choices not to mention the giant photo on the back wall of the entire walking dead cast in tuxedos re-enacting the infamous Shining photo shown at the end of the movie.
Staff members greeted us with warming smiles and that good old-fashioned American hospitality and we were given the menu, just take a look at the predicament I had when gazing upon this sea of choice and beauty.
My eyes were fixed, and my mouth was watering but I took the leap and went for Shrimp and gritz cakes whilst my friend went for a nice flatbread pizza (yes, there’s more food on the other side of the menu too!)
My Shrimp and Gritz Cakes were exploding with flavour and trying some of the pizza was also a treat for the tastebuds, they have got the food absolutely spot on and it instantly compliments the atmosphere that Nic and Norman’s presents.
What took me by surprise in America was that it’s always unlimited refills on soft drinks at no extra charge. I finished my glass of coke and the next minute it was being topped up, suddenly i was filling up with bubbles and needed to slow down to enjoy the rest of my food!
Cooked to perfection it’s clear to see why Nic and Norman’s is popular and not once do they ever lean into the commercial side of things, there’s a quaint merchandise shelf at the restaurant entry but nothing is overly Walking Dead focused and it’s all focused on the restaurant much like Hard Rock Cafe merchandise.
This lovely little town in Georgia has quite the gem in Nic and Norman’s, with a traditional American pub-style menu with some British twists here and there (especially Fish and Chips which surprised me to see anywhere in the States) there’s plenty to choose from!
It’s not just Norman and Greg who are behind the restaurant there are two other crew members behind the show who the restaurant and allegedly other cast members wanted a piece of the pie when they announced this new venture.
Whilst the restaurant isn’t Walking Dead themed like we mentioned previously it doesn’t stop 100,000 fans from turning up every single year to visit but the second you step inside The Walking Dead truly is left behind and this cosy little restaurant becomes the star, not the show.
I couldn’t recommend Nic and Norman’s enough, it truly is a Senoia gem and whatever movie / TV show tour you’re on in the area (trust me, there’s a LOT) you’ll be absolutely sure that you’ll feel right at home inside Nic and Norman’s.
