Vince Vaughn’s Heartfelt Staten Island Resturant Comedy Arrives On Netflix This May

Apr 9, 2025

Netflix has a new Staten Island-set comedy on the way next month with “Nonnas,” which sees a man opening up an old-school Italian restaurant using the cherished recipes of his late mother and grandmother. Stephen Chbosky (“Dear Evan Hansen,” “The Perks of Being A Wallflower”) directs from a script penned by Liz Maccie and based on the true-life story of Jody Scaravella.

We can now share a first-look trailer for the comedy that is arriving on the streaming service on May 9.

A synopsis from Netflix reads:

Nonnas follows Joe (Vaughn), who, after losing his mom and grandmother, turns to their generations-old recipes for solace and direction. With the money from his mom’s insurance and a little help from his friends, he opens Enoteca Maria, an old-school Italian spot that staffs four grandmothers, or “nonnas,” from different cities in Italy, who share their dishes with the neighborhood.

Gigi Pritzker, Rachel Shane, Jack Turner, Scott Budnick, Ameet Shukla, Jay Peterson, Todd Lubin, Leah Gonzalez, Stacy Calabrese, Amanda Morgan Palmer, Alexis Garcia, Scaravella, Pamela Hirsch, Christopher Slager, Dan Guando, and Vaughn make up the film’s producing team.
