John Cena & Eric André To Star In Netflix Comedy From ‘Ingrid Goes West’ Director Matt Spicer

Apr 11, 2025

“Ingrid Goes West” director Matt Spicer is returning to movies after years of helming TV projects; well, kinda. Deadline reports that Spicer will direct “Little Brother” over at Netflix, a comedy set to star John Cena and Eric André. The film follows a famous real estate agent whose carefully curated world gets upended afer his eccentric “little brother” suddenly reappears.

Spicer directs a script by Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel, who also created Netflix’s “Huge In France.” Producers on the project include David Bernad via Middle Child Pictures and Ruben Fleischer.
It’s a bit of a surprise that Spicer didn’t direct more movies after the success of “Ingrid Goes West” in 2017. The dark comedy starring Aubrey Plaza as the stalker of Elizabeth Olsen‘s social media influencer was an indie hit for NEON, who picked up the film after it bowed at Sundance that year. The film went on to win the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award as well as the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. However, since then, Spicer has worked primarily in television and directed various brand campaigns.  Recent TV work for Spicer includes Hulu‘s “American Horror Stories” and “Dollface,” Showtime‘s “On Becoming A God In Central Florida,” and Peacock‘s “Angelyne.”
Other upcoming projects for Cena include two action comedies, “Matchbox” and “Heads Of State.” Cena is also in the midst of his farewell tour as a professional wrestler for WWE. As for André, he stars next in Peter Farrelly‘s comedy “Balls Up,” which should hit theaters later this year.
