John Cena & DC’s Biggest Blowhard Hero Return For Season 2 In August

May 9, 2025

After filmmaker James Gunn and producer Peter Safran took over as the new co-CEOs of DC Studios, the previous iteration of the DC Universe was all but wiped out and rebooted. However, one element will survive: “Peacemaker,” the character and series starring John Cena, a vainglorious anti-hero who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he kills to get it.

Following the events of Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad”—is that canon, will some of those characters return??—“Peacemaker” season one saw the blowhard, obnoxiously patriotic protagonist join forces with members of Task Force X and the anti-hero Vigilante to take down an invasive alien threat.
The series stars John Cena as Peacemaker, Danielle Brooks as Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Harcourt, Steve Agee as Economos, Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith, with some brief appearances by Viola Davis as Amanda Waller (one of the other few surviving cast members from the previous iteration of the DC Universe).
Season two will see the inclusion of Rick Flag Sr., played by Frank Grillo, Tim Meadows portraying Langston Fleury, Brey Noelle, will be Batman villain the White Rabbit, Sol Rodriguez is expected to play Sasha Bordeaux, and David Denman (Bosch: Legacy) in an undisclosed role.
Here’s the official synopsis:
The new season follows Christopher “Chris” Smith, aka Peacemaker, the vigilante Super Hero as he struggles to reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose while continuing to kick righteous evil-doer butt in his misguided quest for peace at any cost.

While Gunn was largely too busy with helming “Superman” arriving this summer to direct on “Peacemaker,” he did find the time to direct three episodes, including the pilots and still managed to write the entire season. Also behind the camera, Gunn confirmed that Greg Mottola (“Superbad”), Peter Sollett (“Ordinary Joe”), and Alethea Jones (“Mrs. Davis”) had been recruited to direct a few of the season’s episodes. A new poster for season two also confirms that Peacemaker’s ridiculous pet eagle, Eagly, will still play a central role in the series. “Peacemaker” returns to Max on August 21.
